put a finger to his lips.

I nodded.

He pulled the duvet over us, making sure I was completely covered.

I heard his bedroom door open.

I froze. I held my breath.

"Leroy?". It was Lana's voice.

Leroy feigned sleep.

"Leroy!". Her voice was louder now. Leroy pretended to stir.

"What, what's up?", he asked, doing his best to sound groggy.

"I heard someone yell", she said.

"I didn't hear anything", Leroy lied.

"Someone was definitely yelling", Lana continued.

"It'll have come from outside on the street", Leroy suggested. "Probably someone making their way home after a night out. Town centre can get like that on the weekends at this time".

"I could have sworn it came from your room", she continued.

"I think you've probably dreamt it", he said. "Best just go back to bed".

Without warning I sneezed....

Without warning I sneezed....

"Leroy Jackson, have you got a girl in there with you?", his sister asked.

"No", he answered truthfully. "I just sneezed, that's all", he added, not so truthfully.

I could feel the tension rasping through his body.

"Something's not right", Lana stated with a sigh.

What Leroy said next was a massive gamble and it sent shivers right through me.....

"First you wake me up with some nonsense about hearing yelling. And then, just because I sneeze, you accuse me of hiding a lass in my bed!", he continued

Lana began to answer him, but Leroy cut her dead.

"Tell you what, why don't you come over hear and carry out a thorough inspection for fucks sake!", he said, allowing just a trace of anger into his voice"......

My blood turned to ice.

"Ok, OK, point taken. Sorry, the yelling noise just weirded me out", said Lana

Leroy let out a sigh and lay back down.

I heard the thankful sound of the door closing. Still, I didn't dare move.

Leroy brought himself under the duvet and pulled me close. We lay still, cuddling.

Eventually, once I felt enough time had safely passed, I whispered.

"Some of my clothes are in the other room".

Leroy was out of bed and the room in a flash, returning moments later with all incriminating evidence removed from the living room.

We spent the rest of the night kissing and caressing before he snuck me out just after 7a.m, in time to catch the early bus home.

We exchanged landline numbers and arranged to stay in touch. Not in a "relationship" type way, but as what would now be described as "friends with benefits".

Sitting on the 62, heading home, it was hard to keep the smile off my face.

It'd been one hell of a summer so far.
