Knock on office door and in walks Dylan...

He asked if I'm OK?

Leo had asked him to check on me but didn't tell him why....

As soon as I saw Dylan I burst into tears.....he hugged me.

I told him what Arlo's dad said and all I got from Dylan was "oh shit.. Arlo's going to be totally deverstated and I think Aiden will be as well"

At evening meal I saw Arlo come in with Brandon smiling and laughing with each other....

Arlo was really happy.....

Tomorrow his world is going to fall apart and their was nothing I could do to help him until then. And then I could only support him and try and comfort him as best as I could do.

I felt upset and sick and had to leave the dining room....

I went to my flat....took my jacket and tie off and sat on the sofa.

I'll glad I'm not in Arlo's dad's shoes tomorrow's.

10 minutes later their was a knock on the door.....

I shouted 'hello'

The door opened and a voice asked "you OK Jason?"

Of all the people in the hotel..

It just had to be Arlo.....

I told Arlo that I've just got a headache..

Arlo commented that I disappeared when him and Brandon walked in and was worried that he had upset me.

I asked if he had had his dinner yet?

I started crying when he said "no, I haven't yet, I thought it was more important to make sure you are ok"

He saw me crying and came fully in and sat next to me and put his arm round my shoulders. He asked me "what's wrong Jason, can I help in any way?"

If only he knew......

I didn't know what to say to him...I couldn't tell him he's dad's coming over tomorrow as I didn't want him to worry or get upset....

And I Certainly couldn't tell him why he's dad's coming...not my place too.

Part 1849

I told Arlo to go and have his dinner as "I'm fine really"

Arlo gave me a hug and left....

About 10 minutes later lovely Harry came in with my dinner covered with another plate....he put it on the table and went to my kitchen and brought out a knife and fork...

He didn't say much apart from "missed you at dinner Dad, so eat up please" He then hugged me...it was like he knew I had something on my mind....

I stayed in my flat for the rest of the evening with my lovely hubbie..

Next morning....

I couldn't face breakfast....I wasn't really hungry..I was worrying too much about Arlo....

I got the flight number and arrival time for Arlo's dad flight.

He was flying into Luton Airport which is about hour and half from us.

At 07.45am I asked Tony if he would pick up Arlo's Dad from Luton Airport. I told him He is not too say a word about this to anybody please.

I told him the arrival time and Tony decided he had better leave at 08.00am...... he did..

As I was walking back to reception I could hear Arlo and Aiden laughing and joking.....Jesus fuck.....

11.00am.....

Tony and Arlo's dad arrives in reception and we shake hands....

Tony had red eyes and it was obviously he had shred some tears.

I knew Arlo and Aiden was in his office finishing off some stuff that needed posting first thing in the morning.

I went into his office and asked Arlo to follow me.....

He did and saw his dad standing their...they hugged but straight away Arlo knew something was wrong..

I told him to take his dad to his flat.....

Aiden came out of the office having a 'nose' and saw Arlo and his dad.

He went to limp their on his crutches but I stopped him telling him "they need time alone please Aiden...."

Aiden knew it was bad news and asked "is it really bad Jason?"

I gave him a hug....

Part 1850

Aiden started crying and I took him back to Arlo's office.

I radioed for both Josh and Brandon to come to the office.

Within 5 minutes they both had appeared....

I sat them down and told them that Arlo's dad has arrived with some bad news for Arlo...he is going to need all the support and love from you lot. They asked what the bad news was....I told them that's up to Arlo to say and not me.

Brandon asked where they were? I told him in his flat talking.

About an hour later Arlo and his dad came to reception and Leo put them in my office and got me.

I went into my office and saw both Arlo and his Dad in tears...

Minutes later Aiden and Brandon came in and Aiden gave Arlo's dad a hug and Brandon gave Arlo a hug.

Arlo's dad explained that the "baby that Mia is carrying has not developed as expected and has structural damage and if the pregnancy continues their will be a risk of life to Mia and the baby. The Consultant offered them a termination for medical grounds and strongly advised it as their is practically no chance the baby will be born alive and Mia has a great risk of not surviving either."

Arlo was told by his dad, that due to the circumstances "they are going to cremate the baby with only me and Mia present.....we have a memory box with his hand and footprint and photos of Mia and me holding him"

Arlo asked if he could see a photo of the baby?

His dad asked him if he's sure he wants to see that?.....

Arlo said he did and his dad showed him photos on his phone. He asked if he could send him a photo of the baby and another one of baby and dad.

His dad forwarded the photos to Arlo.

Arlo thanked his dad for telling him in person and to give his love to Mia. He also appreciated and accepted that baby's cremation will be only with dad and Mia present.

Aiden went and got us all cappuccinos.......

Part 1851

Arlo and his dad then went back to Arlo's flat.

Aiden was clearly upset..he has such a sensitive nature when it comes to family.

I told him to go to the staff quarters and chill out....he refused saying that their are mail shots that have to be prepared for delivery tomorrow. He started on the mail shot envelopes with tears in his eyes.

Brandon said Arlo and his dad need time together....

It didn't take long for the lovely Harry to find out that Arlo's dad was here. He came charging into reception knowing that something was wrong....he was really worried about Arlo.....

Harry 'decided' that Arlo and his dad must be hungry and got some sandwiches and coffee made and took them to Arlo's flat......

As I'm writing this, Arlo has just told me what happened when Harry went to his flat.......

Harry knocked on the door and went into Arlo's flat with a tray full of sandwiches, biscuits and a coffee pot. Harry shook hands with Arlo's dad and gave Arlo a hug...for once Harry didn't get 'harry-itus' and speak before he engaged his brain. He simply said "I'm here if needed Arlo" and then left....well done Harry....

Harry came back in tears, he knew from the tears on Arlo's and his dad's faces, that it was bad news.

Harry needed a hug, but didn't ask me what was wrong with Arlo....

I'm not sure, too be honest with you, whether I like the 'new' Harry without his 'harry-itus'. I don't like him bottling up things in his mind....even though he used to speak before engaging his brain he was always honest, caring and truthful in what he spurted out of his mouth. When he spoke people listened and it made others think about what he said....

At 5.00pm I saw Harry and Liam push the heated trolley past reception. They told me that Arlo's dad will probably have to go before evening meal to catch his flight home and he didn't want him to go 'hungry'...

This is why everybody loves Harry.

15 minutes later Harry and Liam return to reception and said both Arlo and his dad weren't hungry but Harry convinced them that they have to keep their strength up...

Harry, with tears in his eyes, said "we have to look after Arlo Jason, he was so looking forward to having a brother"

Obviously Arlo or his dad told him what happened.

At 6.00pm Tony came into reception to wait for Arlo's dad to come down so he can run him back to the airport.

I noticed Harry was here as well, and I thought he was going to go with them to support Arlo and Tony on the way back and obviously convince Tony to pull into a McDonald's on the way home.

I was suprised when Harry just shook Arlo's dads hand and gave him a hug and told him to tell Mia that we are all thinking of her.

Brandon came out of the Tannery as he arranged to go to the airport as well.

All 4 left to get to the airport.

I asked Harry why he didn't go as well, as he normally would have done.?

He told me that he thought it would be best not too as Brandon can comfort Arlo on the way back and he didn't want to be 'in the way'.

As he was walking back to the kitchen, he turned to face me, smiled, and said "but I did ask Tony if he could bring me back a big mac meal and a banana milkshake!"

Typical Harry!! He really loves his McDonald's big mac and milkshakes!

Tony, Arlo and Brandon got back to the hotel about 10.00 ish.....

Obviously Tony phoned Harry and told him what time as Harry appeared in reception just as they walked through the door.....

Harry gave Arlo a hug and told him that we all are here for him if he needs it....

Tony gave him his big mac meal and milkshake and Harry disappeared to his flat, no doubt to heat it up, before Dylan caught him with it!!

Harry loves hiding the fact from Dylan that he has a McDonald's as he says "Dylan hates me having fast food when we have a bloody kitchen here!"

(Harry I will let you in on a little secret....and Dylan is now laughing his head off.....Dylan has always known that when you go out you always have a McDonald's and a milkshake!!)

Arlo, Brandon and Tony went to the bar as Arlo wanted to buy Tony some drinks for picking up his dad and then driving him all the way back to the airport.

When the others saw Arlo return, it was obvious they now know what had happened. They all gave him a hug.

I knew Josh was still working in the gym but noticed that Aiden wasn't in the bar?

I went to the staff quarters and found Aiden sitting on the sofa in just shorts....his eyes were red and I saw tears running down his cheek.

I sat next to him and put my arm round him.....as soon as I done that Aiden sobbed his heart out....

He told me that "Arlo was really looking forward to having a brother and telling him all about his late twin Milo...."

Aiden isn't very good with sad news and when a family member, like Milo, his nanna and Gramps passed away it hit him like a ten tonne truck. I was more worried about him than Arlo to be honest.

A knock on the door and Arlo came in. He saw the state of Aiden and sat the other side of him and hugged him. I decided to give them some space, so I left.

I went downstairs as Josh was just coming out of the gym...I told him Arlo is with Aiden and asked if he could give them a couple of minutes to themselves.

I went to the bar and Brandon was sitting with Tony and Leo.

I sat with them and Leo went to get me a brandy.

I asked Brandon how Arlo is? He told me that "he has gone to see Aiden as he's worried about how this has affected him? But Arlo is ok and he is going to ask Darren if he can print the photos of the baby that is on his phone, so he can put them in a frame?"

Next morning....

Breakfast.....

Arlo and Aiden are feeling better and rushed after breakfast to his office to finish of the mail shots and leaflets for his latest marketing campaign.

09.15am...

Darren arrives after finishing his night shift....

Arlo saw him and asked if he could talk to him after he's had a sleep.

Darren could sense this was important so said he can talk now. They both went into Arlo's office. Arlo explained about his step mums lose of the baby and Darren gave him a hug.

He then showed Darren the photos on his phone that his Dad sent him. Darren, bless him, immediately said "I can print them out and re-size them for you to put in picture frames if you would like? Just forward the photos to me"

Arlo hugged him and simply said "thanks"

Bob the builder came into reception. I walked with him to the new flats build....bloody hell the roof was on and it was externally built!! We went in and the lads were putting in the electrics and plumbing!! Robert then told me "don't forget we're starting on the restaurant extension tonight starting at 9.00pm? The sliding doors are arriving tomorrow as are the bricks. We should get the preparations done tonight and then start building tomorrow night. It's another team of lads tonight but I will be here at 8.30pm to introduce them to you"

The Postman had been and Arlo comes flying out of his office with a huge smile on his face!! Aiden was on his crutches trying to keep up with him!

All I heard was "Jason, Leo, Billy, look, look at this!!"

Arlo laid a very well known country life magazine on the reception desk. "Look at page 4 & 5!!" He excitedly told us.......

Billy opened it to page 4....and their was photos of the hotel main entrance and the wedding suite, the function room, all decorated out and page 5 was photos of our gardens and grounds!!

They really looked good!!

Arlo was smiling like a Cheshire cat.....

Arlo said he was approached by one of the reporters of the magazine as they wanted to do a 'photo story' of the hotel. Apparently somebody who either works for the magazine or has a friend that got married here at the hotel, praised us big time....

Arlo agreed to send some photos and a short cover story of what we do and thought nothing of it!! 2 months later this magazine was delivered to him in the post this morning!!

The grounds and gardens really looked great including the 'love seat' that Ian built.....

I called Ian to reception

He was thrilled with the photos and the lovely description of the gardens...well done Ian!!

I gave him a hug and then hugged Arlo. Then I heard Aiden say "I choosed the photos!!!" I of course had to give him a hug as well!!

We all laughted and I said well done to the 3 of them.....

A couple of hours later Arlo came out of his office again smiling like a 'cat that got the cream' (Dylan nearly laughted his head off when he heard that one!).

The wedding fayre promoter that Arlo and Tony saw last week has now confirmed that he wants to hire us for 4 wedding fayres over 4 weekends!!!

Well done, again, Arlo!!!

Best decision ever employing him as the hotels marketing campaign manager.....

3 of the builder lads came in to use the gym after work...I must confess they looked absolutely knackered!! And no wonder as the new flat build has changed significantly since I saw it this morning! All the internal walls have been plastered and internal door hung! They all said that Robert is 'a sla*ve driver!

After evening meal I was in the bar celebrating Arlo's and Ian's successful magazine entry when Bob the builder appeared....

He had 4 different lads with him all aged from about 21 to 26?

They said they will be working on the outside first...foundations already in place so they will start building the extension before knocking down the Internal wall. They had ready put up a lightening rig to give them light to work. They will be working from 8.00pm each evening until midnight. Once its all built the morning lads will take over putting in the power and lights.

Things are looking good and by god they work really quick and hard. They were right in calling Robert a sla*ve driver!!

Tom knew a couple of these lads from his college days and when working with Robert before joining the hotel.

Darren came back to the hotel with some lovely pictures of Arlo's dad's late baby. Arlo sent him 4 different pictures and Darren printed out 4 different sized photos of each of the photos. He had 16 photos and we all looked at them.....they were very professional.

He then, bless him, handed Arlo 2 memory sticks. He told Arlo he "has put the photographs onto each memory stick and if you want more copies then just go to a photo shop or a place were they print photos and the photos can be re-printed to the size you want....I've given you 2 memory sticks in case you want to send one to your dad, so he can print out the photos and frame them"

What a lovely thought!!

I saw Arlo's eyes water before he stood up and hugged Darren....he took out his wallet and asked Darren how much he owes him? Darren was having none of it and refused to accept payment...Arlo insist as the memory sticks and the printing must have cost him money....Darren winked at him saying "just say they cost me nothing mate!..ask no questions get no lies!" Arlo smiled, thanked him and told Darren "his drinks tonight are on me..."

Arlo looked happy and stroked the baby's face.....saying "I'm going to frame these 4 I think....one for me office desk and the other 3 for my flat"

Part 1857

Robert and the builder lads went to start work outside. Their power lights were on and illuminated the area well. The lads knew exactly what they have to do and went straight to work....

I told them that when they have a break they are to come inside the hotel and see Billy on reception and he will sort out some hot drinks for you.

I went on my nightly Prowl and went to the staff quarters to make sure that Aiden was OK...

I knocked on the door and was invited in.....

Bloody hell....

Aiden, Josh, Martin and Connor were watching a film...all of them dressed only in shorts....

That was a sight...I tell you that for free!!

Aiden was on one sofa sitting upright with Josh laying across his lap and Martin was sitting on the other sofa upright with Connor laying across his lap....

I quickly asked if everybody was OK and then left them to it....

I then went to see Arlo in his flat and tho and behold him and Brandon was dressed only in shorts as well!

Arlo got up and showed me the 3 photos that Darren printed for him. One of his dad holding the baby was in a A4 size frame....

Arlo and Brandon went out at lunchtime and brought the frames and also posted one of the memory sticks to his dad......his dad was absolutely thrilled with that idea and actually phoned Darren direct on his mobile to thank him personally. I thought that was a nice touch by Arlo's dad.

Meanwhile lovely Harry, unbeknown to me, had made the builder lads some hot drinks and sandwiches and took them out to them!! He said he will make them a hot drink every hour as it was a bit cold outdoors.

I found out this when I went to reception and Billy told me what Harry has planned!!

I went then to the fitness boot camp and found Luke and Graham running it. They were working them hard and both of them were shirtless and sweating!!

The clients seemed happy and were also sweating....but nobody was complaining!

Just seeing them working out made me sweat.....

I then noticed, right at the back were Tony and Leo working out! I've never seen that before...

I then went to check on the builder lads....they must be cold....

I walked round and was shocked at how much they had done! They were sweating as well.....all the grass and topsoil had been removed and Mervyn, the lad in charge, told me "the foundations are their and good and tomorrow, if we're lucky, we might be laying bricks"

As he was telling me this I saw Robert walking towards us....he also inspected the site area and agreed that the foundations are their and in great shape and he thanked the lads for the effort they have put in. He told the lads to clear up and then go home and start brick work tomorrow.

I told the lads that if they wanted a shower to get warm and clean their welcome to use the gym showers.. they all thanked me but only one of them had his gym kit with him. The rest hadn't brought any clean clothes with them.

Mervyn told this lad, named Taylor, that if he wants to have a shower he can go now....

I showed Taylor to the gym changing rooms and showed him the showers, the clean towels and the shower gel and told him to help himself to a towel and gel...

As we were talking he was already stripping out of his work clothes and soon stood stark bollock naked in front of me!!! I handed him some shower gel and a towel. He took the gel and put the towel on a hook and calmly walked stark bollock into the showers, thanking me for allowing him to shower...and added "no doubt tomorrow night all 4 of us will be showering now you said we could"

Next day, breakfast.

All the lads seemed happy as Billy was informing them of their duties for today..

Robert and his day crew arrived on site and immediately started work.

Smudge again 'hissed' at Robert which had his builder lads laughing and Billy trying hard not too.

Aiden was, as Harry says, "full of beans....bet he had sex last night"

We were all getting used to seeing Aiden in full uniform, top half, and shorts with one black shoe and his plaster cast foot with just a sock. He did look a sight, but I will give him his dues, he still wants to work.

Arlo came out of his office after receiving today's mail and gave me a certificate he said I should hang up on the wall...this well known country magazine had sent the hotel a certificate of "commendation" for our gardens and grounds!!
