Jack who was 33 years of age and had been a chef in the navy for some time and had thought for a while in stepping away from the Forces and he had a discussion with his Mum and Step Dad the last time he was on leave.

They offered him the Road Haulage business that they had run for some years now and they both wanted to retire and move house, but they would leave everything to Jack, the business, garage, house etc.

The haulage side of it had collapsed a few years ago and they were only running with 4 vehicles and they though it was a good time to step away. Jack gladly accepted their offer.

The haulage firm was also a sponsor of their local football team and Jack was keep still to support it also. Paul was the foreman, he was 42 and Jack asked him for a lot of experience to help out.

Jack had taken over the new role and decided the house he had been brought up in was badly needing renovated and decorated and asked Paul if he knew any company that would be good with quotes etc.

Paul took a few days to advise Jack re assistance in improving the house and recommended a young guy 26 years of age called Sam. Sam was also connected to the football club.

Jack wanted to meet Sam to discuss his quote although everything seemed ok. Sam had put a slight clause on the quotes that Jack paid for the goods as Sam purchased the materials. After discussion Sam advised that he had been in partnership with another guy who had not paid most of the bills leaving the building company well out of pocket. Jack agreed to pay the building company direct whenever Sam collected the goods.

Sam was about 5'8 but with a good powerful body, arms and legs etc. Apparently Sam also recognised Jack from the new sauna, so there was that connection in a way.

The work would only be starting in the next few weeks as Sam was fairly busy elsewhere with work, whatever that entailed.

Sam messaged Jack and said that he can start the work earlier than expected as he has given up his part time job at the sauna. Jack said start whenever you can and order what you need and the Invoice will be settled with the building company by return. The work is mainly consisting of updating the three bedrooms, good general tidy up and new doors, skirting boards and upgrade all the three en-suites also. Jack has already ordered three double beds elsewhere and will have them delivered once all the "hard" graft is done by Sam and Paul.

The works had started and was going well, Sam and Paul Jnr never really waste a lot of time, the timing could have been better as it was due to be a Bank holiday weekend and Sam I knew was going to travel and meet his own family, whereas Paul Snr was taking a weeks holiday ang going abroad.

I mentioned to Pauls son, what are you doing and he said nothing really, so I invited him to our local teams football match being played at home and I annually receive an invitation for the club for lunch on the day and usually was for two guests. So we agreed we would go to the lunch, watch the game and just go back to the house and have a quiet weekend.

Lunch was excellent and the football not so much, but a win is a win. After the game, we both just travelled back in a taxi and once inside the house, I changed just into shorts and t-shirt, was not surprised when Paul Jnr had done the same.

I said that was frowned upon but being in the Navy at times we had to share a cabin with 5 other guys although you did have some privacy when the individual pulled their curtain or screen on their bed to obtain privacy.
