Anyway when you lot were playing around I did indeed make an offer on the old Tesco express building adjoining the Business Centre.

We were on the way to the local college where we manage to get a lot of our staff from.......

Arlo, and dont ask me how he done it, has managed to get the college to agree for them to send 18 students in their final year of carpentry and general building works, bricklayers and electrians to work on the new refurbishment of the ex tesco building as part of their 'onsite' course work. The best part is their is no charge to us apart from supplying the students with drinks and food at lunch time.!!!!

We got to the college and met with the head of the department and one of the tutors......

Arlo had the plans and drawings for the refurbishment with him and he showed the head and tutor.

They both thought that the students, in their final year, would benefit greatly from being onsite and actually involved in a 'real' project.

It was also agreed that the tutor will be on site as well to monitor and advise the students and to help John and Henry manage the lads.

They will bring all the tools necessary and the students will be onsite at 08.00am and work until 3.30pm Monday to Friday for up to 3 weeks.

It was all agreed when the start date will be.....

Me and Arlo drove back to the hotel.

Arlo was the best investment I have ever done.....he's one in a million, he knows what and how to get business done......

We went back into his office and I gave him one of the biggest hugs he has probably ever had....he told me to "get off him as I'm breaking his ribs and back!"

I apologised for hugging him too hard....but Arlo, think about what you have just done?

18 labourers, part qualified in different fields, each working 7.5 hours per day for 15 days!!

When I was at school that equals to 2,025 man hours!!

Now.....if I hired them in, I would imagine the cheapest rate would be £20 per hour? probably more or £150 per day? I don't know but let's say £20 per hour. So for the 15 days each of them would earn £2,250. Multiple that by 18 and that's an incredible £40,500.00 I've just saved in wages!!!

I went and found John and Henry and told them about the 18 final year college course students working.

Plus the tutor helping them as well..

John and Henry were really impressed with Arlo's plan and they think if all 18 are any good and they should be, doing their final exams in 3 months time, they reckon the work will be fully completed in 2 weeks!!

Henry asked if I have the keys to the building yet?

I got them yesterday and John asked if he could order the building material, doors, door locks, plugs, switches, sockets, partitioning etc etc and have it delivered straight to the building?

I said he could and told him to use the credit card that I had already given them.....

Henry laughted, "the credit limit isn't big enough!".....

He then told me the amount it will cost!!!!

I of course knew what the refurbishment costs of the building were going to cost without more labour costs being added to get if finished asap, but when your asked to actually pay it...that's a different matter!!!

Noah and Arlo had a discussion about what to call the new hotel florist place and the winning name for it was "the flowery"....

So we have the 'Tannery' and now the 'flowery'......

Arlo then handed me draft letterheads, draft brochures etc for the 'flowery' and they all looked good and eye appealing.... well done Arlo.

I felt a bit quilty.....in fact I felt really guilty about bollocking the lads about working too hard, not claiming overtime etc and realised that Arlo has marketing campaigns to do for the Orangery, the Flowery, the Pilates classes and the new Business Centre extension. All to be done ASAP.

Then there's John and Henry..finishing the Orangery building, getting the Flowery workshop ready and now a major build at the new extension to the Business centre.

And of course lovely Noah, trying to organise the Pilates classes and run them and now running the Flowery.

It was now evening meal and I looked around the table and realised how lucky I was to have such wonderful staff.....and I looked at each and ever one of them as a friend as well as a work colleague.

Tom stood up and asked to speak.....

Everybody stopped what they were doing and faced and listened to Tom..

"I don't want to be a party pooper about the pool party tonight but these are the rules!!!! Graham has agreed to be the lifeguard tonight and that puts him in charge of the pool. What he says goes, no exceptions...please...no eating or drinking whilst in the pool itself and finally no spunking in the pool! I mean it lads, and please use the pool showers before entering the pool......

The lads listened and nodded and realised that Tom was being serious.

Lovely Harry again asked wot the 'dress code' was for the party as he doesn't own any speedos!!!!????

Aiden told everybody that due to the hotel having guests everybody is too arrive in tee shirts, shorts and sliders.

He then said "after arriving, before you grab a drink and sit down the dress code will be 'birthday suits' only."

I smiled......

James will be manning reception this evening as he volunteered to give Billy and Leo the opportunity to party.

I was pleased that also attending the party was Joe, Darren and Sam.

It was good to see them again especially Darren as I know he has been extremely busy at work. Won't go into detail but their was 3 horrific crimes against the person/family that Darren's forensic team are investigating.

The lads insisted that both me and Dylan attend as well as we both need to 'chill out and relax'

I really wanted to treat the lads to something special and I was even prepared to close the entire hotel for the day so they all could enjoy the day.

I thought about a trip to a theme park like alton towers etc but poor Harry is not allowed to go due to his brain injury, Aiden is in a leg and wrist plaster and I know that a few others won't go..(I won't name them as I don't think they would appreciate others knowing of their fears!!). So that's out.......

A dinner? Nope.....I don't think the chefs or kitchen staff would enjoy that!??

I asked "He who knows everything" Leo for advice......

Leo, as normal, after I told him that I'm prepared to close the hotel for the day until 6pm, so the evening classes can still go ahead, to treat the lads to a bit of fun apart from just a party.....

2 hours later......

Leo gave me a computer print out....

Very near to us, but in another town was a ten pin bowling alley with a connected 'laser quest'

For 5 hours, minimum number 20, maximum 50 people, can have unlimited ten pin bowling and 8 sessions of laser quest (teams of 4) plus a chicken and chips basket meal for £27.50 per person.

The bowling and laser quest will be just for us as a 'private party' and will be closed to other visitors. We will have sole use of the centre.

They have a slot available next Wednesday 9.00am - 2.00pm.

They wanted a deposit, non refundable of £550, and any extra payment to be paid on the day.

We had no function room in use, no weddings, in the day time. And the lads from the college helping with the extension at the Business Centre starts on the Monday after.

I told Leo and Billy to advertise the event today to the staff and see who's interested in doing it...

Within an hour Leo reported that he had about 40 members of staff think its a great idea and want to do it..

Julie and Janet agreed to run the reception and hotel from 08.00-3.00pm. Tom, William and the Tannery lads said they either don't have bookings for the massages, sunbeds, or tans or won't have a problem rearranging them.....

I told Leo to book it!!!

It was not mine or our intention to upset Jason!!

Yes Leo did tell us that it was a day out free of charge......BUT ... the lads all moaned that Jason does enough for us and always gives but never takes....

Look what he has done for me personally? He gave me a job when I was at my lowest...he supported me through my little PTSD episodes. He helped with my prosthetic leg, he gave me somewhere to live.

I don't think their is anybody at the hotel that Jason hasn't helped in some way or another?

To be honest we live in our new flats for £400 a month for a couple, all bills paid and we have 3 good meals a day also free of charge.

To put it bluntly and to sum it up, it costs us absolutely nothing to live at the hotel.

He pays us bloody good wages, way about the average wage. We have fantastic working conditions.

It really pisses us all off that Jason wants or seeks nothing back!

He gives, gives, gives and then fucking moans when we give him something back!

So wot if we work a bit of overtime because something needs doing that can't wait and we don't claim it?

I just love calling myself that!!

I saw me 'dad' just about to cry after wot Liam said to him on behalf of us all.....

Wot Liam told him was absolutely true!!

Dylan tends to let Jason calm down before he goes to the flat as he hates seeing Jason like that. This is just one of then 'unwritten understandings' they have between them......

I knocked on his flat door, and yes Dylan you were right, he didn't answer!!

My pool party !!!!

(Update on Jason...Liam is driving Jason, Dylan and Harry to the hospital. Yes Harry as well as he worked himself up over thinking and had a bit of a panic attack. The only way Jason could calm him down was taking him to the hospital as well. Good luck Jason)

It was a nice warm early evening so Tom opened the sliding doors of the pool to the gardens and we put the food and beer outside.

The lads were enjoying the party...

I received a phone call from the airline at the local airport who we put up in the hotel when they have delayed flights etc.

I had 16 rooms available and they booked all 16 but wanted us to feed them as well!!

I radioed through to Tony who was working the bar and told him we are expecting 32 guests in about an hour and a half.

Dylan and Jason were still in their flat and they came down to help...

The next minute I had 20 of the lads in reception, all thankfully dressed in shorts and tee shirts, as Graham had his radio communication on and told them what was happening....

Harry, Sean and Alex, said they would get changed and prepare some meals for them. John and Henry said they will help with the suitcases.

Billy said he will help register the guests.

Ian, Sam, and Darren said they will be meeters and greeters and security.

Jack and Ethan said they will help out in the bar.

Aiden immediately cancelled his party

Arlo said he will get some new brochures quickly printed off about the hotel, the gym, the Tannery, the Flowery and the Business centre and leave them in the guests rooms!!

Arlo never misses a bloody trick to market the hotel.

Aiden and Dean said they would help him.....

As Jason said before, Arlo and Aiden fight like cat and dog, hurt each other and the next minute their hugging each other!

As we were all in reception good old Liam said "Right lads, don't forget to get your department heads consent to work overtime and make sure you record it in the book!"

We all started laughing and the lads used every excuse in the book not too claim the overtime in the book. I haven't a pen? Can't find the department head?, don't have time to ask him? I'll do it later?

About 10 minutes later the lads returned to reception in full hotel uniform and the chefs in their chefs whites.

I have also opened the bar for you as well. The lads will take your luggage up to your rooms. So if you could now sign in we can sort out your rooms for you."

As Leo and Billy was signing them into their rooms, John and Henry was putting stickers on the luggage appertaining to their rooms.

The guests were really thankful....

Ian, Sam and Darren showed them all to the bar and told them as soon as the chefs are ready they will be shown to the dining room.

Noah and Dean had kindly cleaned and cleared up the pool area of the beer, food and snacks....

They both asked if it was OK for them to stay tonight in the staff quarters..... of course they can...

Hello readers...

Leo here.....

I felt a bit guilty about ruining Aidens pool party, but I didn't actually ask them to help, they just turned up at reception and practically told me what they were going to do!!

Staff breakfast called....

The lads were all their, yawning and looking tired!!

I thanked all the lads for their help and apologised for interrupting Aidens pool party.

I then told the lads that the airport guests were so pleased that you helped them with food and drinks etc that they have left £205 in tips.

I suggested that they can either share it out or use it for another party?

It was lovely Harry who told me to give his share to Arlo's charity.

I went to see John and Henry in the new Orangery.

They were both in just shorts, rigger boots and their waist belt tool holder. They had no shirts on.

The Orangery was nearly finished.!!

It was looking good and John was fixing and connecting the wall lights and Henry was washing and mopping the floor.....

I asked Henry how his parents were?

He told me that his mum wasn't so good but his dad seems to be holding his own. I told him to finish up here and go and see them.

He said he would love too but their van is playing up, it's the gearbox so their looking at buying another one....

I was unaware their van was broke..

I told Henry to see Leo or Billy and tell them I said you can take the Range Rover.

I asked John if they still need a van now that they are working for the hotel full time?

"Always handy to have a van sized vehicle in case we have to move larger stuff like partitioning etc for here or the Business Centre?"

I told him that moving large stuff around is now the hotels responsibility and not his in his personal vehicle!

I got back to my office and phoned my car dealer friend.....

He just so happened he had a nice 4 year old VW transporter for sale...

Later Henry came to reception and told us that the Orangery is now finished and can I have a look and 'sign it off?'

Me and Leo followed him and as we entered the Orangery we saw John, Tony and Ian sitting on one of the tables!!!

It was now fully furnished with all the table and chairs and a stocked bar!!

I eventually got my hug off the pair of them!!!

Henry and John did take the Range Rover to visit Henry's parents in their care home.

My mate said if they want to sell it, he will get it recovered, look at it to see what the problem is and then offer them a fair price for it.

It was agreed that their van is recovered tomorrow morning.

With that my mate gave John and Henry the keys to the new VW.

My vehicle insurance was valid for any vehicle owned by me or the hotel for any driver over 21 years of age.

John drove the VW back to the hotel.

Evening meal was called.....

I looked around the table and saw all the happy faces and couples.

They were smiling, chatting and laughing....

It was lovely to see....

After evening meal I walked to the Orangery and saw it again in its glory!!!

It really looks good...and the new furniture sets it off.

John and Henry then went to the new building, the ex tesco express, I brought, as they had some building materials being delivered and they wanted to make a start and sort things out for the college students starting on Monday.

Midday.........

Harry comes into reception pulling a trolley with 2 boxes on it.....

He asked if their was anybody available to take him to the Business centre as he has made them some lunch.....or shall he call Dean to come and collect it?

I knew that Aiden and Dean has already employed another full time receptionist and where interviewing for a duty day manager, so I told Harry I will take it....

We loaded up the Range Rover and Harry, the little sod, jumped into the passenger seat!!

I looked at him......

"Don't worry, Dylan knows I'm going"

He told me pulling a face at the same time!

Part 2272

Me and Harry arrived at the Business Centre and parked in the car park at the rear....

John and Henry was in the car park knocking down the dividing fence with the old tesco express next door making the car park more than double the size.

We went in and was met by a lady, behind reception, aged about 40?

This must have been the new receptionist who I know is named Vera.

She said hello and asked if she could help us?

I informed her we have come to see Dean amd Aiden. She asked for our names and I just said Jason and Harry.

I saw her look at Harry in his chef's whites lugging 2 boxes on his trolley.

She picked up the phone and told whoever it was that "their is a Jason and Harry in reception"

Seconds later Dean arrived in reception and introduced us to Vera.

Harry delved into his boxes and offered Vera a choice of sandwiches and crisps and some chicken drumsticks. She was thankful.

We went into one of the offices behind reception. I noticed their was now 2 doors and the office I went in was now smaller?

Apparently Aiden got John and Henry to split the original office into 2 offices now.

One was Dean and Aidens office and the other was now the 'telephone and mail handling' office where Jackie was based answering the clients requesting the telephone answering service.

Dean told me that they need another member of staff to help Jackie as last week they handled over 800 calls resulting in over 600 messages taken!!!

At £1 per incoming call and £1.50 per message that was an income of £1,100. Per week. Yes we can definitely afford to employ another call handler!

Harry gave out the sandwiches and that to Dean and Aiden and also Jackie.

Vera made us all a cappuccino...

John and Henry came in for theirs and Vera made them a drink as well.

John was smiling.....

He then told me that my mates been on the phone to him about his van.

John knows what the value of his van is worth and knows how much a new fitted gearbox would cost.

After some negotiations my mate offered John £125 less than what John thought it was worth and wanted for it. John accept the deal as, after all, my mate did have to recover it with a breakdown wagon which must have cost him.

I told him to go and see him and get the money!!

Henry said he will stay here and finish off taking the fence down in the car park......

Harry was busy dishing out the snacks and that and then disappeared for 20 minutes.....

He came back and his trolley box was practically empty....

He handed me £38.50 in cash......

He went round the offices selling the remaining sandwiches, crisps and snacks!!

Wot a little bugger!!!

As we were in the office talking, Dean received a phone call about the Day Managers job at the Business Centre. He asked the person to send his Cv through by email.....

Aiden said he put an advert in the local paper under the jobs section.

Aiden asked if he could come back to the hotel with me and Harry as he needs to speak to Arlo and Noah.

We got back to the hotel....

Over evening meal the lads were discussing tomorrow being our staff day out at the 10 pin bowling and laser quest Centre.

They were really excited, but poor Liam, being ex military, everybody wanted him in their laser quest team!!!

Arlo said he's looking forward to the bowling as he used to bowl in his younger days....

I saw Noah and Darren smile......

Arlo was boasting how good he used to be and how he scores 120 + each game.

Noah couldn't resist it....."120? Is that all? A good player scores 150+"

Darren joined in..."yea that's right a good score is 150-200"

Arlo, being Arlo, saw that as a challenge and told them...."yea but I constantly score 120 so would probably beat you over 2 games?"

"You wanna have a bet Arlo?" Said Noah......

Darren laughted ...."make it interesting....us 3 plays 3 games each and total up the score? The one with the lowest score after the 3 games is the loser?"

Noah, I think shocked everyone at the table by saying..."Ok and the loser has to serve evening meal to everybody butt bollock naked apart from sliders! Eat his meal naked and then clear the table naked!"

Arlo stood up....."Then get ready to strip then and serve me my meal as one of you 2 are going down!!"

Aiden cheered ......"no chance Arlo will lose....but if he does I help him serve, butt bollock as well!"

Noah told Arlo he accepts the bet and then Darren said he accepts as well!!!
