I was cycling home in the pouring rain a journey I had done many times before unfortunately tonight was very different

The rain started with a few droplets and before I knew it the heavens opened up I was like a drowning rat no water proofs and I still had at least 4 miles of my 7 mile journey to reach home

I was pedalling along and I don't know how it happened but I ended up getting a puncture in my back wheel

I wasn't very happy to say the least so I'm walking along the pavement pushing my bicycle when I heard this voice

A friendly guy stopped at the side of me and coincidentally he was also riding a bicycle and he was in the same predicament as me soaked through to the skin

He noticed I wasn't riding my bicycle so asked what was wrong I told him I had gotten a puncture a few hundred yards behind and I didn't have any repair kit or tools to sort it out

He said he only lived 2 streets away and if I wanted he could help me fix the puncture so I could get home ok

I accepted his offer he invited me in and hung his bike into a rack on the wall

He the turned the fire on to warm up the room and he put the kettle on and asked if I would like a cup of tea to help warm me

I accepted gratefully he made the tea then dug out his tool box and repair kit and then he helped me remove the wheel and tyre and repaired my inner tube after putting the bicycle back together we sat in front of the fire warming up and drinking the tea

My clothes were steaming so Frank as I found out his name went and got me a towel to help dry myself off

Frank was also in the same situation so he said he would just nip upstairs and get out of his wet clothes when he came back down stairs in a dressing gown and slippers he suggested I should take my wet clothes off and dry them in front of the fire I wasn't sure at first but he said the rain had stopped now and I could continue my journey home in dry clothes

He went into the other room so I stripped off my clothes and wrapped the towel round my waist

Frank hung my clothes in front of the fire to dry
