When I'm browsing who's near me, etc, I sometimes see within touching distance but last on 30 minutes ago. Does that mean they were within touching distance then or now ?

Touching distance seems to mean about 100yds. It doesn't take height into account, it once showed when the guy was two floors above me in the same office building.

What I’d like to see is a filter to only show those online now.

Whilst it is nice to know someone near to you was online 30 minutes ago, it doesn’t mean they are logged in and active so I tend not to ‘waste my time’ sending them a message/wink.

It is for this reason, I switch off my location when I log out, so as not to ‘waste’ somebody else’s time.

In my experience touching distance is usually within about 50 meters, but i did once show as touching distance to someone 250 meters or so away.

I was waiting and waiting for someone and all i could see was this guy walking towards me, he couldn't possibly be touching distance as I'd watched him walk the full length of the road and i was worried he was a straight out for a walk that was going to disturb my meet but it turned out to be him. in that case it was definitely 250m when he first showed as "touching distance".

Your GPS location shows on "who is near me" as the last one recorded by FAB against your profile. i too wander around finding people who are "touching distance 25 minutes ago" and wonder if they realise they've left their location so visible after they've just logged on to check a profile.

The GPS runs from the GPS on your phone the last time your browser asked for it. i can drive from one place to another, using my phones sat nav so my gps location must be right, but i'm still be showing as at home on fab. often takes 20 minutes or so to sort itself out. restarting doesnt seem to help, sometimes fabguys and fabswingers show i'm in two completely different locations when ive opened both at the same time.

Many years ago I was in wetherspoons (sorry!) , Anyone who uses their WiFi will know you can't log on to fab, only works on 4g.When I left,I checked my phone outside and saw a message from a guy asking if I was in spoons as it said touching distance.Obviously it must have picked up my 4g signal before I signed in to the WiFi for me to register

I replied to the guy I had been but had now left, he said would I come back and have a drink with him

I once had a couple come up on our fab profile while I was at work to be within touching distance but couldn’t see them out of the window. Five minutes later I left work and as I got to the end of the road, there they were. So I’d say it was pretty accurate depending on the strength of internet service.

I’ve used who’s near me quite successfully in hotels, like to switch on if I’m in busy places to see if anyone is within touching distance even if I’m not meeting. Used it once in a McD’s carpark and the guy in the car next to me was on it, kept looking over but it wasn’t to be.

My question is, surely it doesn’t work if you log out but even leave it switched on? Don’t want some random turning up at the house.

I stay logged in while I am at work driving my bus around Liverpool in and out of the city Center. I have noticed a few times it says touching distance so I send them a wink but I’ve never had a reply of anyone actually on my bus. But hopefully one day someone will be on my bus on fab while I’m driving

It only seems to show you for an hour after you logout...

The annoying thing is the discrepancy between the times used on the site. Someone shows as online and in touching distance, you send them a message and the system now shows them last on 10 minutes ago. But on their profile they've still got the little blue showing

Yes it does. you show as last being online 10/20/30 minutes ago at that location.

The way to stop this is to switch off show my location before you log out but it's a pain always doing this.

Mostly it's somebody was Touching Distance and refresh shows they are now miles away, but a few times, I've seen it and it really was. Once it was guy in same train carriage, in woods it said guy in touching distance but couldn't see anyone until we almost collided, both looking at phone. Once it was lad visiting next door, a fit young builder working on a house 2 doors down and another time a guy parked in his car, outside my window. Could see him on his phone.

But the annoying thing is, there's NEVER anyone touching distance when staying alone in a hotel.

Once on a train from London to Edinburgh there was a guy within touching distance the whole way.

Unfortunately so was my wife

After the journey the we exchanged messages and realised that we had seen each other across the carriage "
same here Durham to London, touching distance in the stations all the way to London. Would be nice to meet a man in the carriage
