This aspect of the site has become pretty much useless has there is such a delay (I’ve seen 15 mins before) in showing people’s online and offline status.

I agree, there's a setting, on the server side somewhere, thats been turned down over the years. You see somebody online, compose a short message, then find they went offline 10 minutes ago.

I think many people only log in very briefly, to check for a message or check nearby etc, then log out ... so the online/offline setting is almost useless

When you have a spare hour and you feel frisky, you'll need a quick way to find someone in the same boat! So the answer is to get online and message someone nearby thinking the quickest win is to list user profiles who are online and nearby. Depending on your membership you will see a list of either 10 or 68 profiles. Expecting to get lucky having 68 profiles to look through, disappointment soon sets in because only 16 profiles [23.5%] are actually online. 52 profiles on the list only show how long they have been offline which ranges from 5 to 60 minutes. The coding needs looking at.

I live close to a motorway services, its an emotional rollercoaster every day for me seeing so much arse pass by and so close. By the time they have read their messages they are either in essex, kent or west wales!

Its so so unfair.

I actually find if very useful, despite the lag. I just accept that there are several factors at play outside the control of the site. The limitations are sometimes a little frustrating, but the benefits far outweigh the 'kinks'
