This is particularly useful if you are getting abuse. Rather than blocking the perpetrator, thus giving them a little thrill, just deleting their messages unread means they have to go to the trouble of typing them just to have them deleted. Knowing they didn’t have an effect. Like they are shouting in the dark. I’ve found it most satisfying. They get frustrated and move on to the next target.
