Surely this is part of any conversation that involves meeting, and even if it isnt- someone who knows they have HIV (or any other sexually transmitted infection) should tell you.

Why?

If they're diagnosed they're most likely undetectable and their fore none of your business.

If their undiagnosed and your playing raw and not on prep then your bad.

You are responsible for your own sexual health.

The only safe sex is no sex.

Condoms lower the risk of most STDs

If you bareback, you run a risk of infection.

Read up on Prep.

I'm mixed on this tbh because,

Anyone can just lie about their status.

The super closeted guys are less like to get tested anyway and may not know their status.

From my experience, people with HIV are very upfront and honest about it. They put it on their profile anyway because it saves time for them as it's an instant no from many people who don't understand U=U. I'm not judging anyone, but that's the reality of what happens. You would still have to trust that they (a stranger) are taking their medication correctly.

Like many people have pointed out, your sexual health is your responsibility.

I met a guy a while ago on a different app and I read his profile. We arranged a meet and he brought it up with me in person to make sure I was aware. It took 2 seconds.

And if anyone was wondering - he got it from a blood transfusion. He's a big healthy tradie type with big hands. He's a side and isn't interested in anal at all. Will meet again 😁.

Most guys now just want random fucks breed you then walk ,never see them again.

If they get tested and it's a positive diagnosis ,they do t know how to deal with it so never go back, like a kid ,if I hide my eyes you can't see me ,utter fools.

As for medication issue ,as with all meds there can be side effects,if you want to avoid the side effects take them before going to bed, sleep them off.

Hiv+ is no longer a death sentance.

It's modern man that's the issue

It's very true. It comes back to the lasting stigma and lack of education on the topic. I didn't know anything about it myself until a few years ago.

A friend of mine (who has a mild intellectual disability) was meeting a married man.

The married guy wanted to BB and convinced my friend that he was "safe" and only barebacked with him. My friend is a bit innocent and vulnerable. He believed him and the used to have sex in a graveyard of all places .

Long story short, the married guy got very ill and he discovered he had aids. As far as I know, it takes HIV years usually to progress to aids so he had been burying his head in the sand for a long time.

Anyway, he didn't take it well, he refused to tell his wife so she could get tested and kept harassing my friend, blaming him. The married guy convinced himself of his own BS that he was only doing BB with my friend. My friend took prep thankfully everytime they met.

The cops nearly had to be involved to stop the harassment. It was a real moral dilemma for my friend.

Also

Check out the FabGuys Sexual Health advice link.

It takes two to tango, I would not trust a word anyone with a hard cock says. A hard cock has no conscience. Even if you test every 3 months it is not a guarantee that you are STI free, as some STIs have a similar incubation time.

Have fun stay safe

Take responsibility for your own health.

Exactly this, guys need to fully educate themselves as ignorance is not bliss

Firstly FACT: someone who is HIV positive takes in a majority of cases one small daily tablet. They achieve and undetectable viral load, effectively a blood cannot detect the virus which means it CANNOT be passed on

Guys on PREP prevent HIV

So the guys who are high risk and ones I wouldn't meet are guys who never get tested. And it is these guys that are spreading STI's and HIV

I agree with this in part. Prep is stopping the spread of HIV and that's a great thing. Treatment makes HIV undetectable and non transmitable- also a great thing. But people with HIV should still disclose it in my view, as the risk of getting HIV from sleeping with someone who has undetectable HIV is v small, but is higher than sleeping with someone who doesn't have HIV- because its possible for their status to have changed and for them not to be aware that it has (as I said, the risk of this is fairly small if medication taking properly and regular testing done.

What I would say is that prep is driving a higher amount of unprotected anal which some evidence suggests is driving an increase in STIs. Again that's not a disaster if people test and treat- but we know that lots don't.

Who will know about his status if they are active in a shag site? Are you joking ??if they say they are negative because they got their result today , they might still be giving you a wrong information without knowing they will be positive tomorrow .

Nothing increase the amount of sti other than people who are not willing to test themselves . Blaming prep takers for sti is totally wrong as they reg get tested and treated and the chance that you get sti from them would be much less than any straight / bi gay guys sleeping around and don’t test themselves

It’s an important thing, sadly there would tmbe those who don’t give an answer or lie. Best form of protection is using condoms of course and regular testing. Prep is essential IMO…. It’s available so take advantage of its benefit!

Sadly a lot are unaware of Prep it seems, have false impressions, or won’t get it as they are married/partnered and don’t want to raise risk of suspicion

Circling back to my opening statement about people who would lie… this of course would be an extremely low number of people but it happens.

Better to protect yourself in the best way you feel is right

It’s never a terribly positive thing to start getting judgmental about what other people do.

The only thing beholden on each of us is to make sensible risk analysis of our own sexual activities and our sexual health needs accordingly.

I agree and disagree with many of the above comments.

However and I can't avoid this fact.

Your sexual health and protection is your and yours alone to ensure your own safety.

Even if you ask or his profile says he is safe. How do you know. He may belive he is safe. Very few people who discover they are HIV+ know it's coming for most it's a huge shock.

Often it's the result of a mistake a one off meeting. 99% of the they use protection they are health and you would never think they present a risk.

The only plus side to being open is if a guy is on treatment there is a huge chance they are undetectable and this makes them one of the safetest people to play with. Far safer than someone who has no idea.

Anyway I will finish were I started. It's down to your own risk assessment and don't take anyone's word is unfortunately the only safe method for pure self protection.

Stay safe and have some fun

On a final note

People living with HIV on effective treatment, will achieve an undetectable status. They CANNOT transmit HIV. It's not low risk or highly probable , it's U=U

Check out the partner study

Very true, someone who knows he has it is responsible enough to get tested and take medication and isn't a worry at all. The biggest worry for HIV id say on this site and others are married guys who won't go to the clinic to get tested as they are to scared incase they get seen there by someone their wife knows.
