That seems completely illogical, if anything it should be the other way round, and thanks for mentioning it as I was unaware of it. I looked up the site rules which say: "people have posted other people's phone numbers as a joke/harassment so it's strictly off limits now." Yet as you said, you can put a phone number in your updated status!

This rule isn't just illogical but unsafe. For example, if you were organising a group meet in a thread, you'd have to post your number on your profile where everyone can read it and not solely in the thread where only interested guys would see it. My advice would be post in the thread "PM me for my number" even though that's more effort for you and any guys who want to contact you.

I only give my phone number privately when I've chatted a while and then after I first received the other person.

I ask if they would like to exchange WhatsApp numbers

Then I ONLY use a spare SIM I use for nothing else in my dual SIM spare phone

Another valid reason why not is number fraud...look up " sim swap fraud"..

All they need is your number,nothing else..

and they can then lock you out of your own phone forever...and have all your personal info./accounts .

Same here, I use a pay as you go sim for contacts on here until I get to know someone - use WhatsApp for calls on the number as they are free on Wi-Fi. If worst comes to worst I can ditch the sim and get another with a different number. Just basic safety.
