Age verification

As from July 26th all adult sites require this function according to government. Various options are listed. Passport, driving licence, credit card details or an app that you scan details into. Any news on how Fab will comply with this or will it just close.

Probably use something like

Yoti:

This app allows users to prove their age and identity securely using facial age estimation and document verification. Yoti also offers age verification solutions for businesses, including those on platforms like Shopify.

I have seen some sites adopt a policy that all publicly available pictures are safe for work. That is claimed to resolve the issue. In the case of fab it could put a lot of work on the photo moderators. I'd imagine they would need to set all pics to friends only then allow users to only make fully clothes/face pics publicly visible.

Would be great to hear the official approach from fab .

I'm sure we will here in due course, I wonder if that would mean everyone would need to have a face pic on their profile.

Yoti - don’t talk to me about their crap “solutions”. I’d sooner be eaten alive by fire ants than have to use them again. Company I work for used them this year and after I told HR what I thought of the process and how bad their software was it seems they had a lot of complaints about Yoti from out staff - so it wasn’t just me.

My understanding was that there was a concerted lobbying effort on our elected representatives by companies offering technical solutions. So no surprise eventually the use of said products is embedded/mandated in law.

Personally I'd be ok with all public content here having to be "safe for work" thereby sidestepping the need for third part services. Interested to know what others think.

Good news. Good to create only genuine profile with our face pics and birthdate and year of birth so everyone knows we are genuine and real.

Face pics and DOB yes but that will be insufficient hence asking for driving licence passport or bank cards.

I get and fully understand the reasoning being it to stop those under the age of 18 accessing adult sites

The flaw in the idea is many of those under 18 are so tech savvy they will be able to "get round" the restrictions by pressing a few buttons

An issue with using yoti type services on a website is the cost of using them, in one case I'm aware of - 2k setup, 4k annual fee, and something in the order of 25-65p per user verification request. That all needs to be passed onto the users.

Well quite.

No point in inconveniencing everyone if it doesn’t even affect the targeted group.

It has nothing to do with the profile creator being genuine, it is about the profile creator being 18+ xx

No… It’s about the profile creator being successful in showing some sort of evidence and convincing an undoubted automated system that they are over 18. Whether they are over 18, and indeed whether they are genuine, will be moot.

On here?? There won't be many left. Even those who are considered as genuine are not registered with their real names. Yes, I know, that rules me out too.

I can't see how the site can confirm its members' ages other than by introducing a registration fee using a recognised method that cannot be used by minors such as PayPal or credit card (not debit cards they can be issued to minors).

There would be no need to renew this paid membership, none of us are getting any younger, so it can be a one off payment just to prove your age as being over 18.

There are numerous previous posts over the last couple of years asking about this subject, and as far as I'm aware, Fabguys have failed to give any indication of how the matter will be addressed.

It's a valid, important question and the fact that Fabguys have seemingly failed to address things doesn't inspire confidence. We need to know.

Surely in this day and age we can do something to stop kids accessing 18+ sites. I assume its the parents buying their kids the phones so do something to stop it at the phone level. Then if found to be still accessing sites then take the bloody phone off them until they are 18. Doing something at the phone level will probably stop most kids accessing. No matter what you do there will always be those that get around it somehow, but the problem will be smaller and not so rife within the under 18 age group. Then go after those parents as not as many to deal with.

Let me be serious for a moment. (Yes, I can be.)

This post I’ve quoted is succinct and accurate.

FabGuys moderators/management have singularly failed to address this issue proactively and have given no reply AT ALL to any thread raising this issue.

So it’s difficult to envisage they are actually on top of this issue.

It has serious repercussions for them.

I’m an ongoing Gold Site Supporter and have been for 4 years. I post all of my “content” publically. I don’t make content private or would be looking to do that. I don’t want to be restricted in what I can upload here beyond the current rules. I have only 23 days left of my site supporter membership. Normally I would have renewed well before this point. I’m not going to do so before I know more: are my photos and videos going to be removed or restricted in some way? My partner is in exactly the same position and also is waiting to see.

Revenue is thus being lost or at best held back.

FABGUYS MODERATORS / MANAGEMENT, ARE YOU TAKING ANY OF THIS IN..?!

It’s only a guess here but the site infrastructure might make this a very big and very expensive job. With the lack of updates on the site over the years I fear they may only do something when their bottom line gets hit as paying members end up leaving.

I’ve been working on building a membership site and there are loads of ways of doing age verification. I’ve put it at the heart of my website as I believe it will also help to out time wasters.

One of the biggest questions is how secure do you think your data actually is on here. All verification can be done behind the scenes and no verification information has to be made public. However if their backend systems aren’t up to scratch then it’s possible our personal data is ripe for the picking if someone was determined enough, and how public do you think they will be if there was a data breach.

They need to pull their finger out and do something otherwise people will start moving to newer, modern sites with everything users want.

It will be most likely done by means of photo verification, with additional ID required perhaps if there’s any doubt that they might not be 18.

Similar to what they do now.

Don’t think it will br a problem.

I've never found anything even remotely as good as Fabguys. I believe most of us want the website to thrive but are genuinely worried about what will happen with the new age verification requirements.
