How does this happen? What’s the point of the block function?

Experienced exactly the same thing recently. The hamster must have been tired?

Yet the site makes the following statement:

"You can use this page to control exactly who can and cannot get in touch with you. Blocked members cannot message you, wink, invite you as a friend or speak to you in the chatroom."

Sorry FabGuys, blocked members can and do message you.

How?

If you have exchanged messages with someone and then block them they can still message you if they have kept one of your texts. They only have to press reply button and bingo they are back in touch.

That’s weird - a loophole in the block function.

I cannot recall ever exchanging messages with this character and definitely not with the newest incarnation of their profile.

Here is the odd thing.

There is no previous message history.

The filters section - I have none - also states no-one who you have blocked can message you.

This isn’t correct.

When you block someone they can’t message and they should get a message telling them they can’t. Check your block list to make sure they are still blocked. If they’ve blocked you and you haven’t blocked them they can remove the block and message you. Or they have made another account.

That's what I thought.

I can recall blocking them myself months.

When I received their message, I re-blocked them.

No you shouldn't be able to mail someone who has blocked you. Have they left and rejoined with the same or similar name?

Yes they have rejoined but they were blocked under their current incarnation.

How I understand how blocking works on these apps is that it's more like a timer. If you have 100 blocks, when you block the 101st person, No1 reappears in your list.

Did he make another account? If so the site block function only blocks by IP address, if he is using a dynamic ip address chances are that ip address isn't blocked with his new account, so it's a game of cat and mouse I'm afraid.

"No you shouldn't be able to mail someone who has blocked you. Have they left and rejoined with the same or similar name?"

I blocked the previous profile and when I discovered it was the same person under a new profile I blocked that one, too.

You'll understand I have not even tried to look at their profile to see if it is an even newer incarnation, but the user name and profile image are the same as before.

I think if you delete all messages you're end (received and sent) then block them they can not message you.

This is where adding a note about a profile can really help, for example changing Thier name, the note follows the account, also any other info you care to add.

I’ve just been blocked by someone. I still have a message from them in my inbox and sent messages in my sent.

I can’t view their profile or message them.

I have profiles in my block list, I can’t see them or message them unless I unblock them.

If you’re still getting messages from profiles that have blocked you. In all likelihood they’re unblocking you to message and blocking you again.

If you have a message of theirs in your inbox open it and use the block link to put them on your blocked list

I had an unsolicited message today from someone who isn't photo verified or meet/cam verified.

I've got my message filters set to not allow non-verified to message me.

That means he shouldn't be able to message me.

But he did.

Unless all this message filter malarky is overridden and allows site supporters to do it even if your filters are set correctly.

Shrug.

Not a biggie but an inconsistency nonetheless.

Blocking in here is useless.

If you block someone, they can't view your profile.

But they can still -

See your new photos as you upload them on the new photos page

See your feedback on other people's profiles

See your posts and comments on the forums

And looks like they can still message you as well

"Who cares "

I generally follow the rule that people whom I find toxic are best kept as far away as possible.

One way of doing that, I thought, was to apply a block, so they could not communicate with me.

I have no wish to have any contact whatsoever with people who are toxic.

If you block someone and they delete the account it removes the block , and they open the account again it has no restrictions on messaging unless you have filters in place to stop it

Trouble I have is I have recently met someone who is actually blocked from my profile. They do not appear on my block list nor do I on theirs. We had to arrange meeting via another app and have more than once.

Have contacted admin but we still are blocked from each other.

Can't understand it.

Nope, not how that works.

If you block them then they can't mail you.

If they have blocked you, and you haven't counter blocked, they can lift their block, mail you, then block again.

So counter block.

Alternatively report and ask Admin to block you from each other, neither of you can lift this.

Damn there was a lot of 'blocks' in this post

The verified message filter means either meet/Cam verified , green tick, or Photo Verified, green flag. If they have 1 or the other then they can mail.

I have a question....

If someone gets thrown off this site, for bad behaviour, or otherwise, does Admin save the IP address, as a rotten apple, so that the banned person cannot re-join under the same user name, or even a completely different name?

Surely using the IP address is the key ?

Your IP address changes when you reboot your router

I'm of the opinion that if you have no reply within 2 weeks just leave it alone

Two sensible people don't need a block feature

No, they can't see your profile but they can comment on your posts you posted on the FORUM. They can also see your photos you downloaded publicly in the Main Photo Gallery.

The block should work on the account name - IP address shouldn’t com into it at all.

Most domestic ISP’s assign your IP address via DHCP ( Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol). You get a lease on an IP address for a certain amount of time. When the lease expires you may or may not get a new IP address (depends on your ISP). You stand a higher chance of getting a new IP address if you reboot your router.
