Endless blocking

Why can't you block people by IP address, I'm sick of the same people constantly rejoining and hassling me.

They make endless excuses, don't follow basic requests and just keep coming back.

It's very annoying

IP addresses will change depending on where you are connected. If you are on Wi-Fi at home your traffic will appear to come from your routers external IP address (which can change when the lease renews), but if you are using mobile data then it will use the IP address assigned by your network provider. Go down the pub and connect to their Wi-Fi yet another IP address, connect to a VPN and it will be yet another IP address. That is why they don’t block by IP addresses because in the end user world they are variable.

You don’t have to be clever for your IP address to change, just where and how you connect, if you don’t understand how networks work you probably aren’t even aware of it.

Ok fair enough, most will be on home wifi, maybe cellular data.

It would help for some amount of time.

Mac address also to some extent, no I am not an expert on Internet connections, but posting this and help from people like yourself could bring up more possibilities.

For now it's just, block, oh it's you again, reblock, then same again.

Yes and no for the mac address as they too can be randomised.

Like most apps (Growlr is the best example) you only have a certain amount of blocks. The entry and memory required to store every person's preference would be too great otherwise.

You kinda get 100 blocks. When you block person 101, 001 will prob appear back on your screen. The other person resetting their profile also makes them reappear.

It's a no win situation that spoils it for genuine nice users.

Such a shame these people exist

As your router and cellular IP addresses are usually issued by DHCP (dynamic host configuration protocol) you only get a “lease” on the IP address for certain amount of time after which it has to be renewed and could change. Also restarting a router or mobile can cause the assigned IP to change.

In theory MAC addresses should be unique, but not always as there can be manufacturing issues causing duplicates, manufacturers may reuse very old MACs and apparently Apple changes the MAC each time it connects somewhere.🤬
