Is it rude/ignorant for someone to be online and not read messages?

Particularly someone you've met or been chatting with

I know no response is a reply . But unread messages just seem ignorant

Any thoughts?

No it's not.

Their phone/computer may be online but they may not be actually looking at the screen.

Or they may be having a quick look while they are doing something else, or for any other reason just not have the time to stop and reply.

Or they're not in the mood to start a conversation but have left it unread for later when they can give you more attention

I'll leave a message unread if I'm busy, or having another conversation, so that it stays highlighted and doesn't get forgotten.

Shouldn't stay unread indefinitely though, good manners require a response, wether yes, maybe or no thanks.

No. I am on FG and grindr, if i'm using my phone grindr notifies me of messages so i can then go on the site and read them, FG doesn't notify me unless i am actually on the site.

You can set notifications so you receive an email if you get a new message when you're offline.

There is a FabGuys app available from the app stores for both Apple and Android. The functionality is not a patch on this site (and no naughty pictures or any videos) BUT it does look like it can send your phone notifications.

Sometimes it's not always convenient to get involved in a conversation and it may also be a message from someone that's not compatible and you prefer to reply later.

The messages do have the feature

" Mark as unread" so it's also easy to view the content and restore it to its unread state for action later.
