If it is necessary to change your username using the function provided on here, does this also automatically change your old username to your new one on the profiles of your 'friends', guys you're messaging with, etc.
Sorry if that all sounds a bit confusing, but I don't want risk losing a lot of valuable and pleasurable contacts unless I really have to.
Or at all, if I can avoid it.

No. Everything (including friends, verifications) stays the same and the only thing that changes is your username
