That Rosie Jones thread

Are the owners of this site content to allow a thread that repeatedly mocks disabilities?

If this were a workplace I'm pretty sure that protected characteristics would apply.

If you read the thread you'll realise that it was asking if she's funny or not, and in fairness she's not. Nothing was detrimental about her disabilities, just about her lack of funniness.

Humour is a personal thing. What someone thinks is funny, others don't. I think she is pretty funny. Not my favourite but does make me laugh. I thought some of the comments about her were harsh.

I always found her stand up difficult to watch because comedy is so based around timing and for obvious reasons, this has been a struggle for Rosie. Ive always been mindful that all my thoughts aren't always correct but that im trying to be as honest with myself as I can.

I could always appreciate that she was funny, but generally thought im probably not the intended (but by no means excluded) audience which was absolutely fine by me and never really found her funny.

THEN I watched her on Taskmaster, where she was given the space to be herself and let her character shine through without the need to instantly grip an audience.

Just to be up-front, Rosie isnt the first or last comedian which Taskmaster has made me finally appreciate but is by far the one im most fascinated by

I genuinely dreaded her being on Taskmaster, not because I have antrjjng against her but because I thought her comedy just isnt for me. When combined with the delivery and timing issues which come up as a natural effect of medical conditions, I had no expectation of enjoying Rosie throughout the show specifically.

ROSIE JONES (especially paired with Jack Dee) shone on that show like nothing ive ever seen before and I genuinely had a feeling of "oh my god she's hilarious when set up to succeed" and cannot praise Taskmaster enough for their unapologetic and inclusive approach to making sure Rosie had the chance to shine and exhibit the character id failed to recognise previously

Not sure where to land on this but I think thd way panel shows work and are edited made it very hard for Rosie to succeed here without a really obvious shift in approach, and despite myself, foubd myself unable to connect to and appreciate Rosie's stand up.

Since seeing Rosie on Taskmaster and seeing how fantastic she can be, given the right space and context, I sincerely believe that had other shows and channel's had the foresight to accommodate Rosie some more and give her the space to create great comedy, then what should be at the centre of the conversation (talent) doesn't get so easily disregarded

Exactly even I committed, she not funny and it's not about her disability as I committed on post I have a physical disability below my knee so no it's not a dissertation against disabled.

100% not funny but we are being asked to make an exception because of her disability.

That is incredibly patronising to her and while I would not watch any show she is on purely because I don’t think she is funny that’s my choice

Like everything else it’s a case of supply and demand. If enough people think she is funny she will get work but if a majority of viewers find her unfunny they will switch off in droves leaving the tv companies to act accordingly

She's not funny, full stop. It's the elephant in the room but you can see it when she appears with other comedians the awkwardness it creates!

To many people she is just not remotely funny and to go further probably cringe worthy. Anyone who puts themselves in a public, paid, entertainment position is going to be criticised and so she can take it like any other crap comedian.

Her reasons for being crap aren't necessarily her disability : her material is unfunny as well as her delivery.

Standard critique 🥱🥱.

Bispham, Blackpool.

Rosie Jones exploits her own disability in the attempt of getting cheap laughs because she's decided a career in comedy without having any basic talent of being funny.

She constantly relies on obscene language combined with her disability to get laughs, I don't mind obscene language in the right context but when it's the only thing she has to offer without any basic comedy skills it shows her to be desperate and pathetic.

She simply ruins any show or programme she's invited to appear on.

For the the benefit of the OP of this thread none of my comments are about her disability but because she's completely talentless.

To be fair, most modern comedians are not funny in the slightest. There's far too many of them. Want to get on TV? Become a self professed comedian and you'll have endless access to inane panel shows where everyone pretends you're hilarious. You're not.

Agree with most I’m that the post was not about disability. Ui found around 1 in 10 off her jokes mildly amusing & some of the others are just strange to say the least. I think the issue is she says something that is clearly not funny & all the other guests on the show are rolling around in tears, what’s all of that about?

It seems I’m in the majority too

Well tbf ypu say your post isnt about her disabilty but then co tinue to mention her disabilty, and why cant she mention her disabolty in her comedy, its part of her life, other standups mention things in their lifes why cant she, oooo dies it make people uncomfotable, fuking diddims, comedy is subjective, i dont also find her funny, but she was the best thing in her series of taskmaster, and the tv show she worte and stared in -pushers is very good, the whole thing over rosie is just abilism, nothing more nothing less, no other comedians that peple dont like gets this much hate

But why single her out? There are hundreds of comedians who aren't funny - is there a thread for each?

I’d agree with this. I remember when she was cast for it and a lot of people (me included) said it would make Taskmaster a difficult watch. I was very pleasantly surprised with how funny she was on it!

I think the site should not permit mentioning any individual by name or position so they can be identified. This is a site to facilitate hook-ups between consenting adult men/TVs/TSs - not a forum for discussion about current affairs and people in the public eye. Threads about specific people (eg politicians, celebrities, royals, etc etc) usually end up with defamatory and often inappropriate and arguably illegal comments about individuals. I don't see why the site would take the risk of legal proceedings for defamation etc by an individual who is aggrieved by what has been published. And the rest of us would be spared all the stuff about newsreaders' chests, supermodels, politicians of all persuasions, comedians/-iennes, etc, etc. There are far more interesting and uplifting things to read about than vitriol about people on the telly.

Anyone using 'woke' as an insult is beyond cretinous. I mean, this is a queer sex site, every single person here is queer, fact.

And woke has roots in social justice, being 'awake' to prejudice and discrimination.

Give your heads a fuckin wobble you dull fucks.

Completely right, at last someone has made sense!

All it takes is one OP to call out rude or disrespect behaviour and the thread soon fills up with snowflakes who can't bear to have their opinions challenged

Well, that's one way of twisting reality to suit a poor argument ... Just not a very convincing method.
