IOS 26.4 - Age Restrictions

Appears all adult sites automatically blocked if trying to access via iPhone with IOS 26.4 loaded.

You need to go into Settings and age verify yourself to allow access - no matter what browser you use or whether in private mode or not.

Easy enough to do, but did cause some concern initially when getting a website content blocked message instead of Fab log in page!

If they're blocked by internal firmware a VPN will make no difference. I don't see the problem with age verification though.

Blocked by internal Firmware

This should not happen

So means something is wrong

Maybe settings restrictions with provider?

VPNs are perfectly legal

Welcome to creeping authoritarianism. It will only get worse. Eventually we will have to provide Government ID.

If they're blocked by internal firmware a VPN will make no difference. I don't see the problem with age verification though.

Upon updating their device software, users will be faced with a message which says: "UK law requires you to confirm you are an adult to change content restrictions."

Ofcom added new rules to the Online Safety Act in 2025 which forced tech firms to strengthen child safety protections, however that does not currently cover bringing in age checks at a device level.

But an Ofcom spokesperson added it had worked closely with Apple and other services to ensure the rules "can be applied in a variety of contexts in order to ensure users are protected"

I double checked and it's the OS, not firmware but again, running a VPN will make no difference. I don't actually see what the big deal is, it's easy to comply. I found the following with a Google search:

'With the release of iOS 26.4, Apple has introduced mandatory age and identity checks at the operating system level. In simple terms, your iPhone may now require you to prove your age before you can freely browse the web or use certain apps.

I’d much rather get this done once on my apple device than multiple times for each adult site and having to trust the multiple verification companies they ask you to use.

If one of them messes up or is fraudulent, the consequences for them will disappear from news after one day. Now compare that to how many eyes are on Apple, how many users they have, and if they fuck up, everyone in the world will see it the news for months, and from android users for eternity.

I agree, it makes a lot of sense in fact verification in this way doesn't necessarily mean it's for porn either, you need it to order alcohol online or to gamble.

A lot of people won't see it that way though, they're far too paranoid.

You’ll survive, it’s coming into place to protect children mate. If you’re that offended by protecting children then you’re a wrong one
