Upgrading by text

Can a kind soul explain how you upgrade by text when you're on a pay-monthly phone contract, please? I've only ever done it when using a pay-as-you-go phone previously, when I had an existing balance from which the £5 could be taken.

Thanks, I pay in advance each month for unlimited minutes, texts and gigabytes, so there's never been anything extra to be added on. I'm probably overthinking it, but you've given me a clue as to where to look 👍

I just knew in my bones that it wouldn't work...

Paid for the phone top-up as necessary before trying to upgrade by text - message repeatedly refused to send. I suspect that the pennies cost of the message isn't covered by an unlimited-text-messages phone contract, and the "standard" rate mentioned on the Fab upgrade blurb isn't really my standard rate for sending texts.

So,a wasted fiver and no upgrade, lovely stuff.

These are some common reasons text upgrades fail:

* You're not in the UK (text upgrades only work in the UK from a UK SIM)

* You don't have sufficient credit if you're on PAYG

* You're not setup to receive adult premium content (contact your mobile network, they can age verify you and sort this)

* Your network has blocked your account from receiving premium contact because of other issues

* You don't have reception

* Your phone inbox is full

Some providers don't let you send for premium text, Lebara, Smarty etc. If you are PAYG you would have to add the text cost too as I doubt if that is covered in your inclusive texts .Sometimes an age block won't let you send for them either.

For years I paid via text on my PAYG mobile. Last time I tried nothing happened yet I had plenty of credit. So paid by debit card instead. A code of numbers appeared on my bank statement.

It's the Lebara issue, though I can't find anything explicitly saying they don't permit premium texts. They're refunding me, thankfully and allegedly.

Perhaps Fab might reword the bit on the mobile site that gave me some misplaced confidence:

"Standard network charges also apply, for example if you normally get charged 5p to send a text, you'll pay that too."

I had same problem today. But if you go to Q&A page and follow link from there you get a message saying text option currently unavailable for maintenance so hopefully will be sorted soon.

I've paid twice last night and just got confirmation texts.

When i go to enter the codes I'm getting this message:-

"Text upgrade temporarily unavailable

Sorry, upgrading by text message is currently undergoing maintenance and isn't available right now."

I'll presume it will be sorted soon, but maybe an admin can update us on what's happening
