The words are picked up by software and the software puts the ban on, I don't think there's any actual human intervention hence why context is not understood.

If you typed it in all innocence then theres no point listing banned words. You obviously made a mistake or mistyped it. Right?

One would have thought that with a bit of common sense it would be pretty obvious which words not to use.

Sadly the reason for it is that there are guys on here that just can't help themselves and have to talk about inappropriate and illegal things and a lot these inappropriate things pose a risk to the site owners who would rather not see the site shut down.

Has it gone a little too far? maybe, but better safe than sorry.

In a galaxy far far away

There are banned words for a reason.

If they are made public people would know how to get around it.

That's why it's not public.

My experience of this is that the ban is imposed if the offending word is written in a message to someone but if it's in a posting on the Forum it's simply declined but I have the chance to edit my text rather than lose it and be banned

I try to avoid contentious words but it is tricky

The substance in the brown bottle isn't inappropriate or illegal but the normal word for it is banned

I understand the word for non consensual sex isn't allowed either but there could be someone reaching out on here wanting advice but can't talk about it.

No not at all, the site owners will have put words that they don't want used either because they are inappropriate or have illegal overtones, in a data base, the software simply scans for those words and acts in the manner the site owners have told the software to act.
