"Well mabe not best but up there jools Holland "

Seen him in concert twice. He’s fantastic. Creates a huge amount of stage energy and yea agree may not be one of the greats but I think he’s pretty damn good.

Jamie Cullem is another for me.

Don't know much about jazz in general to form an opinion, but general keyboards I'd say you have to have Bruce Hornsby up there. And of course the late, wonderful Warren Zevon.

Don't get me started on jazz. Amazed no one has mentioned Thelonious Monk or Art Tatum. Possibly Scott Joplin too who started it all. Johnny "Hammond" Smith best on keyboards.

You know your stuff.

Interesting fact about Art Tatum. He carried a rolled up paper copy of a keyboard and when he stopped if there wasn’t a piano to practice he’d pull out the keyboard and run through scales.

Quality at its best but he and thelonius monk was less my style. No less great though

Thanks friend of mine who I was discussing this with told me that Art Tatum was practically blind, don't know if that's true. Oscar Peterson of course is also a piano genius

When I was younger I used to watch the Oscar Peterson Trio with my dad it was on TV every week.

He’s got to be one of the all time greatest

Have you ever heard of

Hiromi Uehara

She is absolutely amazing. She duetted with Oscar Peterson and he was so. Impressed he asked for another gig with her.

It depends what you call best. Oscar Peterson would be my best from the point of shear technical brilliance But Nat King Cole was a great entertainer. The Duke was a great composer and Monk was in a class of his own but very marmite. Keyboards Walkman, Emerson are about equal imho but there is also Rick Wright and even Tony Banks who I think is massively underrated and then Jools Holland and Elton John should be in there. And finally you have the Killer take your pick. For my money it's a good question but one that I would give you 20 different answers in as many minutes

Another one for you. YouTube Joey Alexander. And in particular the 2014 Copenhagen jazz festival.

This young man is quite exceptional and has a mature touch on the piano way way beyond his years. A joy to listen to

LOL. Agree with all there. Don’t think I could cover everyone I’ve heard and loved. As you hear names you think oh yea forgot about him.

Two more for the pot.

The late great Jon Lord

Don Airey.

Both Deep purple and Hammond organ masters at their finest

Been lucky enough to see Don Airey three times now and loved every second of it.

Sadly, Dave Greenfield died last week from covid related illness. An incredibly talented keyboardist from one of my favourite bands. RIP.
