"BB King,Gary Moore,Sonny Boy williamson, Etta James,Nina Simone,Beth Hart,Joe Bonamassa,Muddy Waters,Howlin Wolf, and Rory Gallagher." Odd to see Joe Bonermassive in the same company as greats like, well, all the others. He's a rich boy guitar collector tribute act and nothing much to do with the blues other than the songs he covers badly.

He has albums of original material, has written with well known award winning writers, played with top stars, had No.1 albums and many top 10 albums. He is by no means a tribute act and if you can’t appreciate his ability you just aren’t listening or have some undisclosed prejudice against him. Like any other music or artist, just because YOU don’t like it/them that doesn’t mean they aren’t good.

"Joe Bonamassa-brilliant. Yes, Joe is a down to earth, very funny guy, no edge to him. Check out his YT interveiws, joe is carrying the torch for rock/blues guitar... His collaboration with Beth Hart on the Etta James number 'I'd Rather Go Blind' was spell binding! Google the vid!

" True, Joe Bonamassa is not a blues player in the traditional sense, but he can play the blues in many of it's developed forms along with rock and roll and progressive hard rock! As a guitar player, I can assure you Joe can play and is second to very few players. Joe is not just a player... he embraces the whole guitar culture, collecting and preserving the history of the electric guitar and amplification idiom! He is a treasure IMO.

" Yeah, I play too (not brilliantly but enough to know). I find his style much like Clapton's, derivative and not very original. He's got technique in spades for sure but I just don't see any of the true spark of a Hendrix, SRV or Rory Gallagher in what he plays. It's all a bit too in-control if you like. Millennial blues. And I know he's all about the guitar heritage, it's just a shame he seems to be on a mission to own it all. Not like I'll ever be able to afford a 50s Fender or Gibson any more, and I suppose they're better bought and played even by JoBo than locked in a vault by billionaires. I'll shut up now anyway! Maybe go and listen to the actual song that birthed a million British rock bands (Wolf's Smokestack Lightning with the inimitable Hubert Sumlin on extremely restrained guitar, the riff of which despite its subtlety blew the minds of Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Clapton himself, Keef Richards, Peter Green, Paul Kossoff ...)

"Early ZZ Top were very blues inspired." I believe white boys from Texas are the only white boys who can really play it properly. Austin and Houston are real guitar towns. Billy G and Stevie Ray are the most convincing exponents for me.

Oh yes... the Smokestack riff, a must learn for every budding guitar player; but don't forget the groove! Also, don't forget, that just about every riff, progression and subject has been done to death over the last few generations! It becomes increasingly difficult to be innovative. One day... I will make it to the crossroads, do the deal with Legba and get Roberts last toon!

"Saw George Melley in a club in Plymouth @1986 Saw Marion Montgomery(she was a presenter on How, a great T.V.show she was a great jazz singer but George melley is one of the artists where when he talks it’s as good as when he sings A Raconteur x" George knows where the groove is...
