Does anyone here practice meditation? A friend has been trying to convince me to give it a go but I just get very bored very quickly and my mind wanders off and I end up thinking about normal day to day stuff.

I use an app called Insight Timer

Can search for meditations on different topics or time length.

It really helps me, I have a stressful job so a quick 15 minute meditation helps to bring me back down a bit.

Doesn't work for everyone. All of our brains are wired differently.

I'd recommend swimming laps as a way to force your brain to switch over. Just concentrating on the rhythmic breathing and keeping count of the total number of lengths swam can have a similar effect. Also a really good cardio and core workout. Gives you a reason to wear speedos too.

I practice mindfulness and meditation along with yoga. It isn't an instant thing it takes a lot of practice to empty your mind feel your blood flow listen to your heart beat work your way through your body from the toes up. Works for me

I used to have a very dedicated meditation practice, but sadly have stopped.

Keep in mind that meditation isn't about sitting with an empty mind; no-one can do that.

Meditation is more about bringing your focus back onto your object of meditation (normally your breath).

So your mind will wander, you will think 'this is boring', then you'll catch yourself on and bring your mind back to your breath. Then your mind will wander,...

Repeat, repeat, repeat.

I found it made me less reactive, calmer, less anxious; happier even. There's some good apps, such as 'Insight Meditation Timer' and 'Headspace'. Probably some others too.
