Just become a member of the Union Jack Club (with wife )

Apparently the pleasuredome gay sauna is about 1 minute away.

Anyone had the pleasure of visiting the pleasuredome, is it just a sauna or can sex be had openly?

I remember that club when I was looking for a safe place to lock my bike before visiting Pleasuredome back in the summer.

I was more nervous of losing my bike than visiting the sauna. There are cubicles where you can have sex. Enjoy!

There are plenty of forum posts about that sauna, you just need to use forum search.

The Pleasuredrome is one of my least favourite saunas. I've never had much luck there. Try it out for yourself. If I were staying in the UJC, I'd jump on the tube to Kennington and go to the locker room , one of my favourite saunas

The Union Jack Club has a bit of gay history attached. It was founded to give servicemen on leave a safe cheap place to stay during the war. It became infamous for gay sex, as men who didn't know each other could agree to share rooms... many forces who'd failed to get their leg over in the dancehalls and pubs would manage it quite easily when they got back to the UJC.

Never actually been there but the UJC did have a reputation of being a gay hotspot. My straight colleagues in the army always said avoid the place as you were likely to get propositioned. That made me want to go but never did

I've been to UJC many times over the years and have only once had sex fun there with a guy I got chatting to in the bar. Apart from that it not an obvious gay place. Plenty of families stay there.

I went to that sauna one Friday evening when I was staying at the UJC. Only a few guys in there and none seemed to want to chat or be up for some fun. I stayed for about an hour and gave up and went back to the UJC for some beers. Not bothered going back since then.

No doubt times change. I heard a lot about it when in the army but that was back in the '80s. Being gay in the forces was totally illegal then but guys reckoned you could get away with it in the UJC and book a twin room with another guy for a night of fun.

I've got a bit of a library on LGBTQ history. Without checking I think this was in Queen London 1918-1957, by Matt Houlbrook.

There is a section about activities at the club in the book 'Queen and Country: Same-Sex Desire in the British Armed Forces, 1939-45' by Emma Vickers, Senior Lecturer in History at Liverpool John Moores University.

Apparently before the club was upgraded there were only flimsy wooden partitions between 'rooms' so the goings-on were common knowledge.

Thanks for that, I'll check it out. The flimsy partitions sound horny. Wonder if there were any gloryholes?!

It must have changed a lot since the early 70s. Dormitories, each bed had a plaque on the wall commemorating an officer who'd died in WW1. Last canteen I ever saw that sold those tinned compo sausages. Which were unbeatably good.
