Christmas day alone

The thought is actually not so bad. I'm looking forward to the time off and getting to be lazy.

Had I thought of Christmas alone 4 years ago when mum was alive and I was on talking terms with my sister and step father, I would have panicked at the thought! It's amazing how adaptable as human being can be, when circumstances change.

We need to be grateful for what we have and stop pining for what we don't. If we could live for the moment and enjoy those around us at that time!

Great outlook. I'm sure many have faced similar moments at different times of their lives and yes, it can be a revelation how well you can cope. When things improve, your positivity will make it all the sweeter.

Happy Christmas.

I lost my boy suddenly to a previously unfounded heart problem and I’m always thinking of him so it was lovely for me to read that. I’ll stop thinking of him now as it’s getting ridiculous after all this time but it would be a lot easier if I had a guy like you. You are extremely attractive . Good luck with your future.

I've enjoyed some Christmases alone, parents emigrated years ago and not much family in UK. Some years I wish I could do it alone instead of joining in, far less stressful. I guess as an only child I'm used to entertaining myself more.

Completely agree. Although this time of year maybe hard for people, that think of the positives and what you do have still make the best out of the situation you have

I've never had Christmas day alone. After my parents died many years ago. One just after Christmas from a long illness. The other less than 12 months later just before Christmas. I made no plans so went to my sisters. It was dreadful. The following year I was invited to another sister's. That was little better. The following year I told my remaining sister that I wasn't coming for Christmas. The relief on her face said it all. I made my own arrangements and had a great time. Sometimes being alone, for the right reason, can be preferable to being forced into doing something you don't want to do. Have a good time whatever you are going. Merry Christmas xxx

I've never had a christmas alone, given the size of my family not likely too either, but sometimes I do wish to be alone as I find the build up to christmas incredibly stressful.

Since 2005 ive spent every christmas on my own

I actually look forward to the peace and quiet and not having an agenda set out to fit around others

I like going for a walk in the evening when it gets dark and enjoy how everyone you meet seems to speak as they walk past you

For that one day everyone seems to be much more friendly

Have a lovely day all what ever you are doing

This'll be my second Christmas alone. Last year was the first, given that I don't live with anyone or have family in the same town, and this year will be the same purely to save any of us in my lot any worry over whether we'd be doing the right thing or not. My plans for the day, therefore, are to eat many crisps, watch EastEnders at 9.35pm and maybe see if anyone on here fancies some company.

I'll be home alone on Christmas Day.

I could go to the pub for a while - they're open until 3pm - but I think I'll stay in

No doubt I'll have the social media switched on, but most people usually have family commitments that day.

Still, if anyone wants to party my door is open . . .

I like being on my own at Christmas I can eat nice things,as much or as little as I want; watch what I want on tele; talk to friends on social media and phone; sleep when I want; no travelling; no having to do polite small talk with relatives and their guests; can go for a walk or bike ride...and can see people up to and straight after Christmas Day I love it.

Well, your post has put ideas in my head.

The forecast temp here is 11 or 12 degrees on Wednesday.

A ride out to a service station for my Xmas dinner.

Maybe a Xmas Day sinner, too

At least you get presents, I've spent the last 15 Christmases alone and never got a present in that time, same with birthdays, not bothered now, people only care about the rich and good looking and I'm neither.

Being alone on Christmas Day doesn’t bother me in the slightest, I have a treasure trove of memories to call on . I know I am not alone in being alone , I have a comfortable home a job and enough to accommodate my needs. Sure life could be better , but it has been a hell of a lot worse.

Truly wish everyone, whatever and however you will be spending the day , peace of heart , mind and soul . 🎅🏻

Not sure that's true. Plenty of people who haven't got very much will still be together and exchanging gifts. And plenty of people not particularly good looking (whatever that is) will be spending the festive period with folk.

I think if like me you don't have kids, or family, don't have a sociable job, are not religious etc you will probably be on your own. It's a huge pressure from TV and in the shops etc but it will be over shortly.

Then there's the other loneliness of a gay couple not out where one has to go away to be with family and the other one is stranded for 2 days at what is supposed to be a loving time...

Between joining the army at 20 and retiring at 61 I think I worked every Christmas day except for two. Often my choice. Remember one Christmas day off [1999] and was invited to join the family--my 2 sisters and an aunt. Hardly a happy occasion as the 3 females seemed to revel in bickering. I've joined friends for Christmas lunch but often felt a bit of an intruder. So now happy to spend the day alone, unless some hunk wishes to join me.
