I saw a sign in sleazy Soho a few years ago. It said “Free sex Show”. OK I thought let just take a quick look…there has to be a catch though. So down some seedy staircase and into a lounge area with a small raised plinth. No payment requested. I was quickly greeted by a pretty young lady who said to just take a seat… it won’t be long. Alright I thought, let’s see what happens. After about ten minutes the lass comes back and asks if I’d like a beer whilst I’m waiting. Seemed a good idea, so I agreed. She came back with a bottle of lager and asked if I would like her to sit with me - penny dropped - she was going to charge for that.

So I said, no thanks, I’m leaving. “That’s a shame” she said “ the show won’t be long now”. No, I insisted I’m leaving. That’s when she presented me with a bill for £50! I was incredulous, but not surprised, as I had begun to think this whole set up was a scam of some sort. She pointed up the ‘price list’ discreetly hidden on a nearby table and said that’s what I had to pay for the beer.

No chance - I told her I’d pay £5 for s beer as a reasonable charge and no more. Then a ‘heavy’ guy appeared and tried to threaten me with the police if I didn’t pay, and asked what my wife would think if she knew I was there. I told him that my wife wouldn’t care, and to call the police if he wanted. I thrust a £5 into his hand as legitimate and fair payment and quickly walked out amidst a tirade of abuse and threats. I think they decided to leave it at that as two police officers waked by outside the entrance doorway.

An adventure and a narrow escape…. but would I ever pay to watch sex? No, never after that experience.
