Young guys won't wear Speedos

Why is that? Are they no longer body confident? Fear from peers on being accused of being gay? (So what!) Am on a beach in Greece and apart from a few of us older guys they're all in long shorts. Bring back beach going of the 70s and 80s, I say.

Can be but like you said the younger guys don’t tend to wear them. Maybe its a fear as coming across as pervy or being perved on.

Isn't this the crux of the problem. Why should Speedos and other form fitting swimwear be stigmatized as being perverted somehow? It's all part of the man shaming that's been happening over the last few years

I think they don’t wear them because they are not in fashion at the moment certainly in Europe. As with all these things fashion will turn again and at some point everyone will be wearing speedos and people will be wondering why no one is wearing shorts!

I think its more around why people are wearing them in the places they do. They are designed for competitive swimming, yet i see people on the beach wearing them, around hotel swimming pools etc and just can’t help that the only reason people are wearing them in those places is because they want people to see what they are packing and must get a thrill out of it, thats pervy. What other reason is there as they aren’t that comfortable or practical.

Your first post sums it up really, i think you only want younger people to wear them so you can check them out (see what there packing if you like) that again is pervy.

Nonsense - that is not the only reason people wear swimming trunks as they have long been know as, or 'speedos' if you must. I have been swimming all my life and never thought about wearing anything else. If other people decide that's pervy well, it is all in the mind - their dirty minds.

Trunks and speedos i would say are different things. And like i said they are made for swimming so the fact that people swim in them no problem there. Im talking about the people that wear them around the pool on holiday or on the beach. I know theres water there but Ive never seen anyone in them doing laps in the sea or holiday pool.

The fact the OP mentioned not seeing young guys in them on the beach suggest he wanted to see them in them and have a good look. Nothing wrong with just having a look but it is by definition a bit pervy.

I'm looking forward (if I live that long), to the return of shorts that don't come down past the knee, both to perve over but to wear. I found some on Debenhams site before the chain collapsed and wear those a lot. As for proper speedos or trunks as we used ot call em, I've never been lucky to find them esp in a larger size.

Another thing about wearing Speedos.

They allow your legs to get more sun tan, when at the beach, etc.

Unless you are at a nudist beach, when you wear nothing.

I am not bothered, if guys are perving or not.

Exactly this. I wear them because I dont want tan lines within inches of the knee. They also give better support than swim shorts. Fashionable? Unfashionable? Couldn't care less - it's what I feel comfortable in that matters most to me.

Proper swimming trunks like speedos don't enhance the bulge, they actually squash it flat. There is plenty of more showy beach wear even in shorts form. It is also possible to show more by free-balling in loose fitting shorts. I think there is a lot of projection going on here. I usually get naked at the beach and wear speedos to swim in a pool for exercise. There is nothing inherently or intentionally sexual in either activity or choice of attire.

Finally bought a pair as always wanted to swim in a pair as suspect you feel more free in the water without the drag of shorts. Going to be in a hotel with a pool soon and thinking of wearing them there as it should be quieter but have to admit I’m really nervous. Will take shorts as a back up in case I chicken out.

Isn't this the crux of the problem. Why should Speedos and other form fitting swimwear be stigmatized as being perverted somehow? It's all part of the man shaming that's been happening over the last few years

It is nonesense to say they were designed for competitive swimming. Back in the 1950's every man and boy on the beach were wearing them, just normal beach attire. Men can still wear wear them on the beach or at pools or for sun bathing just as women wear bikinis. We do read some rubbish in these threads.

Wear What makes you feel good at the pool or the beach. But for me it's speedos or nothing at either. I'm definitely no swimmer, bit like the Titanic, half way across and no further, but always have, from a young teenager, worn swimming trunks then Speedo style and on occasions swim thongs. So guys wear what you like, just remember that baggy swim shorts often teamed with T shirts will do you no favours if you get caught up in a strong sea current or rip tide.

Speedos are actually the best thing to wear if you are actually a swimmer.

I don’t see the point of wearing those big daft baggy shorts if you are actually swimming . They create drag in the water and they drag your legs down in the water so you have to work so much harder to get to the other side of the pool.

The first time I wore speedos in the pool as a grown up was a very liberating one and they are just the best thing to swim in. I wear tight shorts too sometimes. But you can’t beat a Speedo, imho

Loads of men of all ages wear them in Australia to the beach and the pool. Anyone who is a good swimmer knows you slip through the water better and can move unhindered. Beach lifesavers wear them for that reason. Also huge with the blokiest of blokes - rugby players - they train in them and play in them because they are sturdier than undies, often in a brand called Budgy Smugglers. If you think they’re pervy that’s on you, not speedo wearers.

I love speedos. They don’t need to be budgie smugglers, but they should fit well. Board shorts are useless for swimming. Speedos might be out of fashion but they have a purpose unlike most fashion accessories and they look great on all real swimmers. They’ll be back and I’ll continue to wear them in the meantime.
