I read that the British evacuees are fleeing Sudan. What have they got to do with Sudan? I don't understand what's going on.

There are British people working in dozens of countries around the world. I imagine quite a few work in Sudan and these are the ones who need evacuating as the country teeters on the brink of civil war. It was a British protectorate at one time if not quite a colony.

During Prime Minister Questions today, Mr Sunak was asked what safe routes exist for a Sudanese child to escape Sudan and seek refuge in the UK.

He answered a different question, about evacuating UK nationals.

Ms Braverman asked the same question on Sky News.

“We are passing a new law at the moment to deal with people who come here illegally. There is no good reason for anybody to get into a small boat and cross the Channel in search of a life in the UK.”

So, anyone escaping Sudan who finds their way here, children included, to be trafficked to Rwanda by the UK state, basically.

They were unprepared for an escalation of violence that required UK nationals to escape, and they appear equally unprepared for an escalation of violence that requires Sudanese nationals escape.

The 2011 census identified 20,000 people living in the UK who were born in Sudan. English, thanks to its colonial history, is one of the two official languages in Sudan.

The combination of family ties, language and cultural factors is what would drive some to seek refuge here.

Hopefully, it doesn't escalate to a mass exodus but recent history does point to an exodus when the violence erupts and famine spreads.

English is a dominant language in Sudan. That would make the UK a draw.

But, then again, noone is suggesting that millions of Sudanese are on their way over- aside from the rhetoric from certain groups.

The Tories told us in 2019 that Labour's plan to borrow £80 billion to invest in infrastructure would bankrupt Britain.

£80 billion?

The Tories borrowed £140 billion last year alone.

Not for infrastructure investment, but to cover the gap in their day-to-day spend.

They wanted to borrow even more, and give it away in the form of lower taxes for people who already have pots of money.

The financial world went into meltdown at their economic incompetence.

Interest rates shot up.

Now they need to borrow eye-watering sums just to pay the interest on their debts.

Borrowing money to pay off the interest on the credit card bill, basically.

How does it get any worse than that?

There used to be a surprising number of UK citizens studying medicine in Sudan. Much cheaper, recognised universities, easier to get accepted (less demand vs places). Not sure if that is still the case.

"not a member of any part, luv. you cannot wait to house all those Sudanese with their beautiful big black cocks."

I did have a brief interlude in Dec/Jan with a man who said he was from Sudan and has refugee status here.

Sex was super, he was fabulous.

I noticed deep scar tissue on his leg and, being the nosey sort, asked what it was.

One was a knife wound, he said, the other was a bullet wound. Long since healed.

He came round one evening with some rather strong agricultural produce - much stronger than the usual variety.

I have a vague memory of collapsing, hitting my head on the radiator and knocking myself unconscious.

He picked me up in a state of distress and mopped my fevered brow.

It took me quite a while to recover from the experience, so I invited him to make his excuses and leave.

I don't think he was too impressed - he was hobbling on a broken ankle from a delivery Scooteroo crash, it was the middle of the night and buses were running only ever hour.

I never saw him again after that.

Google tells me the 2011 census detected about 400 Sudanese nationals living in Bristol.

If there's any more like him, please send them my way.

The people being evacuated are Bitish Nationals, some will have right of residency, orhers not. They won't be arriving illegally if they are already processed via the FOROEP....same as the manh Afghan Terps who have been brought in quietly and are getting on with their lives.

Plenty of experience of lamding in countires where rounda are pinging and bringing out British Nationals/British Citizens and vulnerable persons.

Unfortunately the press misreport evacuations due to ignorance...GMB today presenter once again tried to make it about race...tell that to anyone who has worked on exfil flights...64seat a/c taling off with hundreds on board because the PPPs get as many on as they can and the aircew will onoy take off when they have max on board and often run risknof local anti aircraft measures when they miss a take off slot...dont forget the RN Vessels around Port Sudan being used as alternative route out ..

Both read PPE for their First Degree. Rachel went into Banking sector and sat her MSc Economics at LSE...so both have a Philosophy,Politics and Economics Degree, one obtained a 2:1 despite having parents who were both Teachers, one obtained a First with father who went to the top of the Navy, a mum who was a nurse for two decades, and cousin who was a pioneer in specialist care nursing for orthapeadics...

I applaud them both, Rachel is a good bet to be Labour's first female Leader and I love hwr direct manner which she mixes with a sharp mind and objective views; her sister is also an MP so hats off to the family for their contribution to our society.

I worked with/for Jeremy when he was DMCS(Olmpics was in the title at the time too) always found him to be absolutely on the ball, honest and a decent man who shone above others in the room. At one meeting i reverted to dumb norfener and said 'this is total bullshit some of you need to put propelling pencils where the sun doesnt shine and getput on the ground and see the issues we face daily'...a senior Civil Servant demanded I apologise...I apologise I should, of course, of alao included those of you with your Mont Blanc pens Sir X'...Jeremy told everyone i had agreat idea and everykne should blockmout a day to get out to one area within the week and report back in...

They took me to the shrine to General Gordon - he is still revered as the man who brought fairness and stability to Sudan. I was surprised at the reverence they held for a colonial invader.

Weirldy people in Chatham want his statue taken down..."

It’s become fashionable & ‘right on progressive’ to seek shame at history. Bizarrely at local government level. Easier than tackling issues that concern rate payers I guess?

A little pride in the staggering achievements by this nation over centuries would not come amiss.

Don’t matter who they are. But you can be assured this government bring about 10.000 here and give them £500 million in aid

"not a member of any part, luv. you cannot wait to house all those Sudanese with their beautiful big black cocks.

TORIES:

STOP THE TORIES

Said poster has added this "stop the Tories" jingo at the end of at least three of their comments which makes it sound like a party political broadcast. Plus the content of said poster's remarks don't make a lot of sense.

The weight of public expectation would crush a Labour government, particularly when they realise there is feck all in the kitty to do much.

Spook the financiers and they will do a Truss on you.

Sudan, Sudan, Sudan....ignored for so long and now MSM want us to focus on no news stories.

Meantime in Ukraine, it's all falling apart. NATO loses, looking to avoid attention.

She compared the governments spending in one area with its spending in another area. To show an example of much more spending in one unnecessary area with another.

Don't know how correct the figures are but thats how I understood the post

Sudan has long been a troubled country. Several ongoing civil wars. It divided into two separate countries not so long ago. Prior to that the largest country in Africa. About 10 times the size of the UK. Was also a dictatorship rather than a democracy. Think that is what this latest trouble is about. A clash between those who want democracy and those who preferred the dictatorship

It's what the Tory election strategy Lynton Crosby calls the dead cat strategy.

Throw a dead cat on the table and people will start talking about it, rather than the really important stuff they'd rather we overlook.

All we see and hear in the media is Tory spokespeople talking about how much it costs - £6m a day - to process people seeking asylum.

Usually with a "Stop the Boats" slogan somewhere in the background.

Because none of them want us to talk about how much their own pisspoor record is costing us - £124 billion in the last year alone.

We're spending more each year on interest to cover the debt run up by the Tories than any government department, except health.

Every day for 13 years they have borrowed and borrowed and borrowed. And still they keep borrowing more and more money.

Where's all the money gone?

It's classic Tory election tactics - scapegoating foreigners to hide their own incompetence.

STOP THE TORIES

"A clash between those who want democracy and those who preferred the dictatorship"

It goes back to Darfour and the civil unrest there.

Rather than send in his own Army to quell it, the president brought in the Arab equivalent of the Wagner Group, known as the Janja.

Ruthless Arabs on horseback who were brutal. The president later charged with genocide.

The Janja morphed into the Rapid Support Forces militia.

The RSF found common ground with the Army in 2019 when a move to civilian rule threatened the military hegemony.

Now they've fallen out again.

Not quite sure how suggesting removed the statue of a colonialist amounts to not having pride in ones country.

There are many things the UK can indeed be proud of, not sure its colonial past is top of the list.

do you mean biofuel IC? They ran for years before petroleum derived versions. The efficiency of initial engines were poor even when I last looked at trg materials for young Fitters/Mechanics SI Engines were only hitting 29per cent Eff...CI 32 per cent...massive leaps in past decades with reworking of what was once total waste. The work to reclaim 'waste' has driven (pun intended) the development of hybrids. Hydrogen is the viable and sustainable option but way too many powerful people try and maak how close it is to bei g affordable at street level so they continue to push for EV which is toatl nonsense...we do not have, nor will we have, the infrastucture in place to make EV charging viable foe years to come.
