Mine was 17 years ago, and was one for the worst experiences of my life.. I don’t want to put anyone off by telling this story, as it is very rare this happens, but it did happen to me.
I went to the clinic, was greeted by a very nice nurse and a youngish English doctor, who was very pleasant, they explained the procedure, and I lay on the bed and had a local injection in each side of my groin… no worries there. We had a brief conversation whilst the anaesthetic took hold, and he prodded me a few times to see if it had taken effect.
Once it had, he made the tiny incision, and dug around to find the tube to cut, I could feel the pulling slightly but nothing more.
Then he pulled up what looked like a car booster starter trolley and said there might be a bit of a smell of burning but not to worry he was just going to cauterise the ends of the tubes.
And I was hit with the most incredible pain I have even felt, I must have jumped vertically off the bed about 2 feet, I went white, was shaking, felt faint..
The doctor was great, he was extremely concerned, they gave me some water, and he told me that he had never seen a reaction like that before, BUT, the cauterisation hadn’t worked, and if I was willing he was going to give me more anaesthetic, and then try again.
I’d calmed down a bit by now, and he gave me two more shots of anaesthetic in each side. He poked and prodded and I couldn’t feel a thing, so he asked if it was ok to try again.
Gulp….! But I’m not a scary cat, so I said yes…
Bang, same thing again…. He told me he had managed to do one tube, there were three more ends to do… could I handle it… and could I try to hold still…!!!!!
It took 3 attempts, then he had to do the incision on the other side and cut the tube, before doing the cauterisation on that side which fortunately he managed to do in 2 hits… and by the end I was sweating, crying, and shaking like a leaf. I have never felt pain like it. I was in a total daze, but managed to get dressed and walk out to the car
Fortunately my girlfriend had driven me to the clinic, and she drove. I was totally out of it on the way home, and just went straight to bed and slept.
The next day I was black and blue from my knees to my waist, my bollocks were almost black.
3 days later I had an appointment to see a consultant about a pending hernia operation, and when I dropped my trousers for him to examine me , he actually swore… “what the hell happened here” as I was still bruised so badly.. He was pretty shocked when I explained what had happened.
Being a total perve, I did manage to wank after a few days though…. There actually wasn’t much pain. And despite my worries that it might not have worked properly, my tests came back clear, and once the bruising had gone there were no other side effects, other than I started to have nightmares, re-living the experience, and had trouble sleeping, I actually believe I suffered from a kind of PTSD which went on for about 3 years.
Apparently this is extremely rare, only happens to one in a million, so please don’t be put off by my experience, I know loads of people who have had the op with no issues whatsoever |
