Helston

Worked for a company based there for three years and must agree it's one huge shithole of a place.

Stockton is no more a shithole than many other towns in the UK. Probably no better or worse than Braintree which is currently represented by the Right Arsehole James Cleverclogs. Yes, it has its rougher areas ... but where doesn't?

But keep an eye on it. There is an ambitious development going on in the town centre. Basically knocking down a redundant 1960s concrete shopping centre and turning the space into an urban park that will connect the High Street to the river. The intention is for it to transform a run down space into a leisure hub.

If it works it could become a template for a shithole near you. Of course, the newly created space could be colonised by lowlife dru**ed up alkies. But, at least the council are showing some ambition and vision for the future.

I often get deliveries up that way and I think its a fairly nice place, certainly not the shithole it's been described as, there are far worse places in this country, London in general being one of them, ok its big, its flash, but glance around and you dont have far to look before you see the run down buildings abive the glistening shop fronts, piles of rubbish littering the streets, miserable looking people who don't give two hooks about anyone but themselves... I know where I'd rather be.

Spend a few years working in the ace and you certainly wouldn't that especially on the HIGH street or what's left of it. But your are right most places are like that when you look deep enough Middlesbrough is worse these days

Nr Shildon

One of the things is despite fierce local rivalries

Outsiders do not take the piss or we (the North East) will not take kindly to it.

PS yes parts are shitholes but they are our shitholes.(mostly) lol.
