Always rumours of guys on ships/subs saw lots of discrete action

Were these old wives tales or true ?

Is it still commonplace today

A certain amount of homosexuality goes on in all the forces. Always has done although it was illegal in the past and we had to be very discreet about it. Lads in their sexual prime and away on long voyages bereft of female company were bound to indulge in a little 'friendly play' though what I have seen of sleeping quarters on a navy ship there was very little privacy

No, not at all! All that wokeness in the Navy has made the prop shafts fail on two of our carriers. That woke stuff gets everywhere, even into the water they're sailing in!

Grant Shapps said it, so it must be true!

Back in the 80s I met one of the crew when it had docked in the middle east, can't remember where now, and he said it was rife on the yacht. The rumours of the royals having a coterie of gay staff were true and that extended to the Brittania.

That's a long-standing patriarchal tradition of the royal family - gay male servants pose no risk to the chastity of the royal women

"Thought this post was about our 2 new carriers that keep breaking down, a national embarrassment. "

The story is that the Navy were warned it was going to be a problem and the manufacturer suggested a delay in handing over the ship so they could fix.

Navy said no.

I read today the UK has a grand total of 9 seaworthy ships (excluding the submarines). That's remarkable.

Apart from the ones in refit, they are all seaworthy. However perhaps only nine of the larger ones are available for operations. Generally speaking, only a third are (in any navy) at any given time. The rest are being refitted or maintained or are at some point on the training pathway, or have just come back and are winding down.
