Yes it’s antibiotic taken after sex to prevent chlamydia and syphilis. Pretty effective by all accounts and NHS will likely provide it, similar to prep, before long. Other countries are doing the same.

I’m curious to see how many here know of it or are using it already. For a hookup site, information on sexual health seems lagging behind with many users.

I think there are concerns that over use of antibiotics like this might lead to resistance eventually. I suppose you have to weigh up your risks either side

Yeah, I’d be wary of taking antibiotics as a matter of routine, rather than as a remedy for infection. It’s probably asking for trouble.

I asked the consultant at the clinic about it. He was against giving healthy people antibiotics. He said it was unlikely to be rolled out on the nhs. I buy mine quite cheaply online. Its the same antibiotic uou take to prevent malaria.

Surley the NHS would be against persistent antibiotics taking, it will lessen the impact over time, where I live sti rates are "extremely high" according to the nurse I was seen by on my last visit, not knowing why people were in the clinic, it did seem busy. I took hope in the fact people were being tested, that's where the win is xx

"Is it the same as doxycycline which I take from time to time as a precaution ?"

It is doxycycline, a 200mg dose taken a maximum of 72h after exposure.

It should ideally be taken within 24 hours and absolutely no later than 72 hours.

Other antibiotics don't work. It must be doxycycline. It is cheaper to order from online pharmacies for malaria prevention than it is for chlamydia treatment.

The aids map website has a great article on using doxycycline to prevent STIs. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post a link.
