Our first visit to Welhornys 1st to 7th July 2024 after hearing about it online, seeing Google reviews and comments on FabGuys. We arrived mid afternoon and were given a warm welcome from Darren when he opened the door. We were shown to our room (6) at the front of the hotel overlooking the road. Very quiet, no noise from outside. Very clean and comfortable with a small ensuite shower room. Tea, coffee and sugar in jars (no small fiddly packets) along with a kettle and small fridge for fresh milk were in the room. There are 8 rooms in total, mixture of singles and double, with a maximum of 15 guests.
Quick shower and we made our way downstairs, naked. Felt quite apprehensive as other than being naked at home this was a first, being naked in a social environment. Went into the bar and drinks ordered, sat down and was soon chatting to the other guest sitting there. It was so relaxed and normal that within minutes we soon forgot that we were naked. Darren and Paul were both busy being busy and were the perfect hosts, nothing seemed too much trouble and were both chatty and had a great sense of humour. Drinks were flowing and the time just flew by. There is an outdoor area to the back of the hotel which is accessible via the kitchen. By the back door there were dressing gowns for guests to use, not necessarily because you had to cover up, but more to keep the wind away. Usual garden furniture and loungers were there for guests to use. We went to bed feeling very relaxed, beds were very comfortable and we had a good nights sleep.
Breakfast was served at a set time of 10am and we were given a shout at 9.50am that breakfast was nearly ready. This seemed odd when we first heard about this set up, but it actually made prefect sense. It saved Darren and Paul running around all morning preparing one or two breakfasts at a time. It also meant that all of the guests were there at the same time, chatting away about their plans for the day, the weather, politics and life in general. And of course as normal we were all naked. The breakfast was your typical full English and we couldn’t fault it. Darren and Paul were in and out of the dining room, checking everything was ok and offering fresh tea and coffee.
There is a strict ‘No Mobile Phones’ policy in the public areas. You can use them in your room no problem, but elsewhere they are not allowed. First for privacy, other guest might not want you to take pictures of them and post on social media but the main thing was the social side of things. In the bar it encourages people to chat to others and we soon got used to that and it actually made the time go quick as you were soon engrossed in conversation.
The Bar is closed on a Tuesday as Paul and Darren have a well deserved day off.
When buying drinks a tab is set up and you pay at the end of your visit, saves you having to carry your wallet, especially when you have no pockets.
There is a well equipped play area upstairs, with the usual toys and facilities for guests to enjoy, including the front half of a car. I’ll leave the rest to your imagination. But again very clean space, with condoms and lube available to use and plenty of bins dotted around the place. There are plenty of lockers for those guests who are just visiting for the day to keep clothes and valuables in.
If the bar is closed or its during the night or first thing in the morning, you can smoke outside the front of the hotel in the small front garden, again there are dressing gowns for guests to use, rather then going back to your room to put clothes on.
This definitely felt more like visiting a friends house, rather then stopping at a hotel. Wednesday night is games night. We played pool and giant Connect 4 through the night, another great way to interact with the other guests
By the 2nd day of our visit we had already decided that we would want to visit again. Sadly Christmas was already fully booked so we have booked to go back to celebrate the New Year
There was a good mix of people, both guests and day visitors. If you are looking to go for the first time you have to become a member at least 24 hours in advance, this isn’t Darren and Paul being awkward, but its actually part of their licencing conditions.
A big thank you to Darren and Paul for a great first visit and to the other guests for the conversation. Don’t be put off by the whole naked thing as it is just so normal as everyone is in the same boat. If you are in the area, pop in for a chat about membership, then just visit and enjoy.
