Is there anyone amongst us who is prescribed medical cannabis?

If so, why were you prescribed it, how do you get on with it, and do you use full spectrum with THC?

Medical marajuna as far as I know isn't THC, or if it is its very minimal but mostly made up of CBDs. I see a lot of ads on social media for the medical stuff but I'll stick to the sticky icky I already know

I've received a message: "hi. Can I ask why you need to know about medical cannabis please?"

In a nutshell, I've suffered pain in my ankle following an injury to my ankle joint over 20 years ago, osteoarthritis. The pain varies quite a bit and is totally unpredictable. Sometimes it's fine for a couple of weeks before it starts up again.

I've also had problems with a continual groin strain, on the other side from my ankle, and pain in my outer thigh and knee. This has been ongoing for a couple of years and will not go away. I recently had an appointment with a physio who very quickly diagnosed a problem with my hip joint, now confirmed following an X-ray.

The reason for my post therefore, is to determine if I'm eligible for medicinal cannabis to see if it would help.

That isn't my understanding, with minimal research it seems that full spectrum cannabis, with proper amounts of THC, is available on prescription. I've previously used CBD but it doesn't do anything.

Yes, I have been prescribed medical cannabis in the past. It was extremely potent with THC levels around 27%. Worked incredibly well for my back pain while I sought other treatments to help improve the situation not just manage pain. If you have experience with cannabis use you will be fine. Otherwise I would proceed with caution. Start with small amounts and progress from there. Good luck.

Thanks, it's the prospect of driving under the next day and possibly being over the limit that concerns me. I'll have to look into it a little more.

A lot depends on the quantity you use, what time you take it, and your build. I’m a big guy with much previous experience with cannabis, so was fine driving the next day. Good luck.

"Grow your own lol"

I'd try that if it was legal to do so. I think they made a law in Germany that you can grow up to three plants at a time, as long as it's for personal use.

We've always had to pay for private prescriptions, are Labour planning to give the stuff away for free?

I used to be Labour Blair said prescription cost would be reversed. It wasn't. Lib dems said they'd give students free tuition... they didn't. Don't trust any of them trust keirs labour least of all. Grown your own discreetly nobody will know and you can cut out the middle man and any harmful bits added.. If your not greedy not for profit no one will know.

Why should it be free? I don’t get this culture where so many people think things should be free.

Exactly. Like anyone else over 60 I don't pay for normal prescriptions but if I can get a private prescription for medical cannabis, I'd expect to pay for it.

I signed up with an online clinic last Thursday, had a telephone consultation on Saturday, received my approval this morning (Monday) and placed my first order shortly afterwards. Delivery should be tomorrow, all you pay for is the cannabis + £4.99 delivery per order with no consultation fees.

Plenty of strains available, flower can be bought 10g at a time and they also have vape and oils. I chose two blended strains with reasonable amounts of CBD and THC, I'm looking for pain relief and don't want to be zoned out.

All best wishes with your new "med", hope it brings the pain. relief you need, perhaps you would update us on its effectiveness?

My package arrived this morning, next day delivery. I vaped a very small amount this morning and 4 hours later it's still working. I was slightly light headed at first and felt relaxed but still functional afterwards. The pain relief is very good, I definitely feel medicated

I've had a message asking 'did you not have to send off medical records?'.

There are numerous criteria and medical conditions that can be used in order for a prescription to be authorised.

In my case, where I require cannabis to help with pain, I downloaded and attached a referral from my NHS account with details of my arthritic hip. Another criteria is that you have previously tried at least two other treatments to help with your problem, in my case it was Co-codamol and a Tens machine.

They also asked for a list of other prescriptions, easy to provide.

Just completed a second year with Curaleaf. Prescribed for anxiety and depression. I self medicated for 20 years prior to signing up. I did have to share medical records and show evidence of having tried to 'regular' treatments.

Ive been happy with my presceiption, it works out slightly cheaper than I was paying on the black market, and the best thing is I never run out. Reliability was always an issue with the black market for me. Now I know what Im getting, and when Im getting it.

I also dont have to worry about being busted with it. I carry a copy of my prescription and try to be faiely discreet about smoking in public.

The big problem i found has been the edibles. I tried some of the THC gummies, but it takes 3-4 to feel any real affect.

Yes, it's good that you can do everything above board, and as you say you know what you're getting when it's a legitimate source. All the clinics seem to offer a massive choice, and for now I'm sticking with flower but may try vape cartridges later.

What's stopping you? If you have a genuine medical need, and there are many on the list, you'll find it pretty easy to do.

I haven’t been to the doctors for a year or so and have not had any medication for anything, always used cannabis for a bit of pain relief on back but never spoken to doctor about it.

You won't be eligible for Medical cannabis if those are your circumstances. It's only prescribed by specialist private clinics, and you need to prove that you have tried at least two other legitimate methods to alleviate your problem before they will prescribe it.
