Met up with an old friend the weekend. We met years ago on gaydar. We were both lamenting it's declined. We both left there about 5 years ago. We were saying how much we used to love it 20 years ago when it was pioneering. We were talking about how we met late one night when we were the only two men in one of the obscure chat rooms. Both said we would love something similar now.

Slowly they increased the numbers allowed.

Gaydar was brilliant when it first came about. They had chatrooms for nearly every town/city in the UK and some very niche rooms that were always busy no matter the time of day.

It was thanks to the site that I was able to meet a regular local older guy a few mins away and I was also able to get my first threesome with two guys literally up the road from me due to us just chatting and organising in the chat room right there and then.

I went back there a few weeks back and the site is awful. Navigating it is horrible and the sneaky ads that make it look like someone has messaged you in a chat room is just unfair.

Yes GAY.COM and GAYDAR were two of the big players of their day.

The Gaydar chat rooms were legendary, they had a Webcam meeting room but no video chat facility so they were encouraging people to leave the platform to participate in video chat which was a missed opportunity.

The name GAYDAR is such a marketable commodity, they were privileged to own that.

For me, the main problem with squirt is being able to look for locations when I'm planning to visit. If I'm in a location I can see what's nearby, but when I'm on my phone and looking to go somewhere, the app wont let you search locations - only your favourites and close by.

They've also massively cut down on the messages you can send and the notifications for chat requests is so delayed, the person who you're trying to meet has already logged off

Or maybe that's just when 'we' were at our best using the Internet. When everything was new and was a suppliment to real life.

I think culture now is for the online experience more so than a tool to add to real life.

I did meet a couple of nice guys on there though who I ended up seeing for a while.
