Illegal in UK but often done whilst on holiday abroad

Why is this done & what’s its supposed to achieve ?

Control. Done (usually without anesthetic) so women get less pleasure from having sex. I think the reasoning is, if a woman/girl doesn't enjoy sex she'll be less likely to have extramarital affairs. Also, in certain cultures it'd be very difficult for a woman to find a husband if she hasn't had her genitals mutilated.

Just another example of barbarism and 'mastery' over their women. It's vile and outdated and disgusting, but hey, 'it's their culture'... so beyond popular criticism.

I'm not quite sure that's right, it seems to be older women who inflict it upon their children.

Although not as cruel or dangerous I consider circumcision, when not carried out for medical reasons, to be the male equivalent.

I'm glad it is illegal in this country. Revolting, barbaric thing to do. Any man doing this or even sending someone abroad to have this done, should have his balls cut off. See how he likes that!

I think men who want their family members to have this done should have their bell end cut off too, seems fair

Male dominance and female submission under the guise of religion

Fucking barbaric

Mothers and aunties hold them down and slice labia and clit off

It’s then bandaged and heals up…hopefully

It ensures virginity the husband has to force in

Causes blood poisoning and lots of other issues

Bear in mind it’s usually poorest people and even dirty tin lids are used

Is it "often" done?

Obviously one case of fgm is one case too many but my understanding is that it's on quite a serious decline not only in countries in which it was once commonplace but that decline percentagewise is echoed in the expats of those nations.

Usually for the same reasons MGM is performed, for religious purposes.

I think it's barbaric but I am cut/circumcised and I know that I feel less in sex than others. I do think it does depend on how and who did the work but on the plus side I can fuck for ages. But it is hard to cum quick which for some is a sign I don't like them. So not putting it as the same as FGM I don't know why one is so accepted and the other so frowned on. One is clearly more damaging but I would stay having your foreskin taken off can have a effect as well.

I'm not circumcised but given the choice I'd rather have my foreskin removed than have my dick cut off. I don't believe in circumcision unless for medical reasons but it hardly compares to FGM. The difference between taking longer to cum and being unable to orgasm because your clitoris has been removed is surely rather vast.

Yes I believe childbirth can prove very problematic, especially if the woman has been infibulated

The "It's just their culture" excuse is no excuse.

Chimneysweeps were once part of certain cultures too

I don't understand the comparison. Chimney sweeps carried out an essential service in the days before smokeless zones, and there are still a few around today. I don't see how they were part of any 'culture'.

Actually, the male equivalent would be to chop yer bell end off.

Fgm also removes the clitoris.

It's abhorrent and barbaric ... As is the circumcision of little boys for cultural/religious reasons.

Neither should be tolerated in the UK, and those having it done in other countries and then returning to the country that hosts them should face prosecution.

I was trying to make the point that just because something is culturally accepted doesn't make it a good thing. Historically chimneysweeps used children and that was seen as OK.

Maybe it was a clumsy analogy but my point still stands. Saying "oh but it's just their culture" doesn't mean FGM is acceptable.

Both sad and disturbing.

Any type of mutilating for any reason other than for medical necessity or adults consenting is completely wrong but in many of these so called cultures FGM is a very small part of their disgusting behaviors. Hence the term Terrorism for most.

The whole thing is disturbing and showing obvious ignorance as I'm sure everyone knows, there are many other parts on and in a women that gives them sexual pleasures.
