Should Stephen Cottrell, The Archbishop of York is facing calls to resign over his handling of a sexual abuse case, days before he takes temporary charge of the Church of England.

Should he hold any accountability??

Neverwhere

Private Eye did an interesting piece on this a couple of issues ago. It charted who knew what, when and what each of them did ... or didn't do. If they sacked Stephen Cotterell there would be at least another 20 or 30 to follow.

Llandrindod Wells

Thought he was the front runner for the Canterbury job and a far better candidate than Welby ever was. This latest revelation has probably scuppered his chances and left his position in York in doubt. Seems the Cof E needs a major shake up.

Whenever anyone mention the Priesthood now, I think 'paedos' first 'jesus' second.

Have we lost something, I wonder...?

Shocking!

That anyone still buys Private Eye.

Any other organisation would be investigated and heads would roll.

Maybe they should close down the CofE and the Catholic Church.

forgive yes, but that doesn't mean you get away with it. We have choices. Choices leads to consequences. There is nothing easy or weak being a christian

Go the whole mile and close down everything that has men involved …

It's what the British Establishment always does - whenever evidence of wrongdoing surfaces, the people at the top are more interested in protecting their reputation from harm than they are in protecting people from harm.

Organized religion seems to be the perfect set-up to carry out these sort of acts of child abuse.

Judaism/Christianity/Islam .... all cut from the same cloth from the same part of the world

Sadly this is how a lot of people think now. They connect all clergy from whatever denomination---even religion--with paedophilia yet 95% of all clergy are not in any way guilty. Recently had this argument with two people on a well-known social media site. Neither knew any actual clergymen, had anything to do with any church, yet condemned them all.

Justin Welby's political stance means he's been given an easier ride by the media.

Yeah it's a bit like the reaction to anyone remotely left leaning on this site. Most of the Daily Mail reading, Farage loving, immigrant loathing posters have never met anyone outside their own bubble yet pontificate on here about boats ad nauseam, socialists, communists Corbyn this, Corbyn that, Diane Abacus Abbot etc .

Whether it's church or politics, it's no wonder there's so little sensible comment on here.

And you think attacking anything you disagree with is "sensible comment"?

This logic, although right, unfortunately is the same for race, religion, culture etc
