Traditionally a watch should be worn on the left wrist. This is because the button for winding the watch and adjusting the hands was on the right.

If trying to adjust the hands when worn on the right wrist it is very difficult to do this while on your wrist. With the advent of battery powered watches this may be less of an issue of course.
