I didn't come out so much as accidentally get outed, by a very good friend of mine. No real issues to be fair and yes, we are still very good friends.

Too much emphasis and anxiety is placed on "coming out" . Back in the day it was a big deal. Nowadays it's only news on the day, tomorrow it's something else. Closeted, sneaking around, guilt and living an unhappy life vs out, freedom and a happy life. I know which I'd choose.

I was 32. All I really did was remove doubt and end speculation for those in my family who hadn't had the nerve to already ask.

Nothing changed. The most significant person in my life at that time was the mother of my children and she'd known from day one anyway. My children were 2 and 5 weeks respectively. Their moment took another 10 years.

I haven't 'come out' but I'm not ashamed or embarrassed by my sexual preferences, they don't define me any more than my job does, and I don't lead an unhappy or a double life .

Coming out is not a day or a one off thing. If you choose to share your sexuality it's an ongoing scenario, new people you meet, new job etc

Family don’t know. Friends were told in my fifties. They just shrugged. Good friends

I came out late, l had been thinking about doing it for a few weeks as just didn't want to hide anymore, l decided to tell my Dad on Xmas day of all days, it wasn't easy as had things going on like you do, decided to do it over dinner just my Dad & me but couldn't get the words out even though could hear them clearly in my head, so as the evening drew on & it started getting later l just decided to go for it or l probably wouldn't of done it. So a deep breath & l just said have something to tell you, l told him l was gay, my Dad just said if you are you are & have been lucky as have had no issues from family/friends & l work in a gay friendly place
