Totally agree especially where the young were around. Sadly where I grew up there were not many cruising spots and the few that were, mostly difficult to find anyone. CA, 36, was in the cubicle of a public toilet in a west Cumbrian supermarket when the offence took place in June last year.

Workington Magistrates’ Court heard it had taken some time to find the defendant, who travels to the area for work.

PF, prosecuting, said a female cleaner had entered the toilets.

The cleaner then opened the toilet cubicle and the defendant was seen to be carrying out an indecent act.

Appleby denied the offence during police interview but pleaded guilty to intentionally exposing genitals, causing harassment, alarm and distress, when he appeared in court on Monday.

Late 1970s was my first foray into the joys of cottaging. Going home from work in the early 80s via Newcastle - and the many cottages it had then - was wondrous for a horny young man. Vandalism (in Newcastle at any rate), no legal requirement on Councils to provide public toilets so they closed them to save money, complaints (justified to be fair), the rise of Apps. The answer is yes but it's not nearly as common.

Back in the day undercover policemen we're put on 'toilet' duty to actively catch people. In some areas they would have to have a certain number arrests before they would be moved onto other duties (a rule that obviously was massively open to abuse)
