OMG the amount of sports people and athletes

What would Brian Jacks say???

Sorry but to me an overweight young man who plays darts is not a sport’s personality

His GP needs a serious word.

Next years finalist might be a tiddlywinks champ

Firstly his age and weight is irrelevant. Have you ever seen Olympic Games weight lifting competition ? They are all over weight and out of shape but they can lift something that you will be dreaming to hold that weight up with twenty of your friends together , so shape and being overweight is not always relevant .. ok let’s talk about shot put , do you think throwing a metal ball is a sport ? They throw it 5/6 times and win the gold medal but if you run with them they would be fked up after two minutes .. throwing dart needs 100 percent concentration , you need to manage to put that little thing in the middle of a tiny viny area or a hole from a decent distance .. It is a sort of sport as you need to hold your nerves and muscles to manage to be 100 percent right,, Ok then Chess wtf ? Do you move your muscle in chess at all? Do you call it sport? But In Chess you kick million of your brain cells to beat the other guy.. I personally think the most powerful athletes in the world are wrestlers in Olympic , but the world would be boring if we had only one sport/ competition to watch . Littler is a young man that has manage to reach a level that for many of professional dart players took 20 years of practicing hard to reach to that kind of levels ,,so his achievements is exceptional in dart , I think he deserves to win it .

Good luck to him. At least he seems to have a bit of personality unlike so many arrogant sportspeople. Can't believe his age as he looks much older. That said I actually find him quite attractive.

As to whether darts is a proper sport that is debatable. To me it's a pub game. What next? Dominoes, three-card-brag, draughts, backgammon etc as part of the Olympics?

"Imagine being a trained athlete up for the Young Sports Personality of the Year award and losing out to a teenage darts player who looks 35."

How can he help looking old for his age, and why does his appearance matter.

He comes across as an entirely decent man who has put in years of dedicated practice to get where he is. Darts may not require speed or strength, but to get to the top it needs accuracy, consistency and a cool head under considerable pressure.

he can't help looking old? It's mostly due to his size that he looks like that. So yeah he can help looking that old. Stop patronising him as if his weight is absolutely nothing to do with him. You can go on kidding yourself if you want but leave me out of it.

Stop patronising him, how about you stop body-shaming him? Larger people of any age tend to look as old as they are, not that it's any of your business.

Luke appears to be older than he is because of his high brow, old-fashioned hairstyle and his beard. He seems to dress a little older as well, and none of this should matter unless you're a judgemental twat.

Rather rude and not true. I'm a big guy and overweight yet a lot of people put me years younger than I am. Also being overweight can be to do with a lot of factors and not necessarily lack of exercise or gluttony.

Yes Luke does look older than he is. Cannot believe he is so young. However he is still a very good looking guy as well as a thoroughly pleasant one.

He needs to lose weight simple not a body shame

He’s obese and at his age he needs to start looking after his health

It is a sport , you think you decide what is sport or the expert ? For this game you need lots of skill and precisions. Also No element of luck . No difference with shooting / Archery / shot put/ skateboarding/ trampolining all official Olympic Games. I agree he is a bit of overweight for his age but he hasn’t got any trophy for that reason .

It's far from obvious. I'm not one of the people who've slated either him or the sport at all, however I've no actual idea what class I am.

How do we determine people's class, and can it change during their lifetimes? It's something I feel that many people are too obsessed by.

Questioning whether darts can be classified as a sport is fair enough.

Criticising this lad for being a bit on the tubby side is a bit out of order. We can't all be svelte adonises. Would you have a go at a rugby player, a boxer, a wrestler, a weight-lifter for being overweight?

I have not watched SPOTY for a good many years--20+--but I imagine there is some kind of voting system in place and they are not just picked by a couple of anonymous judges sitting in the ivory towers. So the lad won it fairly and squarely. Plus, as I've said before, he certainly seems a decent guy so good luck to him.
