Has anyone had any experience with having herniated disks treated with steroid injections ?
I am waiting on a consultation to have some hopefully treated this way as I’m not keen on any surgery with my back !
Each case would be considered on an individual basis, based on the clinical imaging and of course, your symptoms. Generally speaking, given enough time and appropriate exercises, herniated discs can resorb to a degree. In simple terms this means the protrusion can shrink, then no longer touch nerves.
I won’t delve into too much detail here but if a patient is struggling with excessive pain, the nerve root injection with hydrocortisone and anaesthetic can be useful. The aim is to reduce inflammation and therefore restore normal movement.
This isn’t the place For any diagnosis, however, I’d first be asking how long you’d have the symptoms and what you’ve done about it in terms of physiotherapy etc.
