Looking at the options of starting prep. I'm regularly tested for sti but thinking of looking at prep and other recommendations if anyone has thoughts on other injections etc.

If you regularly test for sti's , the best advice would be to discuss at gum clinic as they will advice you based on your health and specific requirements

Never heard anyone using a gum clinic for that type of advice. But sexual health clinics are very professional and have all the up to date information on all available medications specifically used for sexual health reasons. They have Doctors who look at your medical history and medications and know the best results for you. Prep is well tested and proven to work very well, but there are health issues to consider.

1: Be very aware that if you take Prep while or after you contract HIV is very bad for further treating your HIV status.

2: Although there are very few side affects of taking Prep, some do experience various side affects.

3: Prep works your Kidneys hard so regular testing of your Kidney function is very important.

4: There are various recommended regimes of taking Prep. Some take it daily some take it on as required regime, but be aware, there are strict guidelines to doing that.

5: Although Prep is very good at preventing HIV in your country, it has been noted that there are many different strains of HIV, so if you travel a lot around the globe, best to get the advice from the professionals at the Sexual Health clinics.

6: Although it's very common knowledge, it's worth pointing out that Prep only works to protect against HIV and not for all the other STI's. Sorry for pointing that out as I'm sure it's well known by all. Just worthy to note.

As for other preventative vaccines etc. there are many vaccines you can take including Hep etc. but new vaccines are all readily available these days.

Personally, I would suggest going to a Sexual Health Clinic as their job is knowing all the in's and out's of sexual health and certainly have the expertise to diagnose and explain all the various issues.

But as you have stated, regular check up's are essential for so many reasons so you getting regular testing is great.
