What mobile network provider are people using, and how do you find them?

I have a dual-sim phone with my main number provided by Lycamobile, on the EE network, so always a good signal. I pay £8.50 for unlimited calls and texts, and 15Gb of data which I can also use in the EU.

My second sim is with Lebara running on the Vodafone network, £4.90 for unlimited texts and 5Gb of data.

I'm with 02 pay as you go. £15/month for unlimited calls/texts plus 25gb data, all of which I can use abroad. Am looking for something similar with another provider, as my 02 data connection has gone slow. Free roaming in EU is a must. Would welcome recommendations.

O2, £8 for unlimited everything but I’ve noticed the 5G drops down to 4G in some cities, and sometimes even 3G and it is frustratingly slow

Any tips on the best coverage? I’m currently using both smarty (uses EE network) and giffgaff (used O2 network). Both seem to have mediocre signal in lots of areas, 4G mainly but it’s often slow even in urban areas.

I would look at price comparison websites such as Money Saving Expert or Go Compare etc. You get a better deal than if you go to a provider direct.

02 was great until about a year ago, when it went much slower. A lot of apps won't open for me now as a result. Have tried new sim, changing tariffs, other phones, and have concluded that 02 has downgraded its service but won't admit it. I have a dual SIM phone with the other sim being a foreign one, which actually works better in the UK than 02.

I have a Voxi SIM in my phone. £10 for a monthly contract. 45GB of data, unlimited texts and calls. However, you have to pay extra for roaming, which doesn't really bother me. Voxi is owned by Vodafone.

I also have 5G broadband at home, with Three. It's fast and generally reliable, but Three's customer service is pretty bad. I only went with them because they were the only ones providing 5G in my area at the time and I got a good 'friends and family' deal.

I've been a BT customer since 1990

I pay them a wad of cash every month for landline, broadband, TNT Sport and my mobile phone.

I don't understand any of the jargon surrounding mobile phones, and tbh I've no idea how much I'm paying for a mobile.

Those providers that use a parent network will always be worse than the parent network. I’ve had smarty and it was terrible, same with good gaff. You’re going to need to join O2, EE, etc.

I didn't realise that home broadband through a 5G SIM card was a thing, how is when multiple devices are streaming content at the same time? £21 for 150Gbs is a decent deal though.

Jeez, they love people with customer inertia like yourself. It wouldn't take much to login to their website and see the breakdown.

I know . . .

I find all that kinda thing really boring though.

Still, I've time to fill now until 6th January, so maybe I will get a cold towel and sit down and study it all

Three's 5G router is similar in appearance to the one you get with a land line, but only has a power lead and a slot for the SIM (unlimited data) card. You can put it wherever you like in the home, as long as it can pick up the signal from the 5G-enabled mast. If the 5G signal drops the router reverts to 4G, which still isn't bad but nowhere near the 300Mbps I usually get.

I've never had an issue with multiple devices being connected to it at the same time; it's the same as a regular router in that regard.

Giff Gaff, because it seems to be the only provider that works well where we live and most don't have any service at all here

Thanks. I had kind of come to that conclusion but really DON’T want to pay big bucks. Do you know that these companies that piggy back get an inferior service or it’s your gut?

Lycamobile use the EE network and I've never had a single problem with them. EE has the widest network of them all, I believe.

Leek

EE are the best of a bad bunch here, slightly ahead of O2.

Vodafone barely has anything and Three is non-existent.

I switched earlier this year to Talk Home Mobile who use EE's network but I would struggle to recommend them. It took them almost a week to port my number over and they won't let you access sites such as this.

I can only get on here when I'm connected to the WiFi at home these days.
