Why is there such a fuss over Christmas Dinner and such an expense spent on them?

It's a Sunday roast after all is said and done

Not sure same for everyone. But I really miss it now my Dad has passed and my Mum has alzheimer's.

Being the only sibling and no other family, christmas day is just...special for some x

Maybe my Christmas Dinners with my parents never felt special.

I've always regarded a Christmas Dinner like a Sunday roast.

Depends what effort you put into it. I've just left the kitchen after making my own special stuffing, rolling sausages in bacon, preparing fresh veg and making a sauce. Things I probably wouldn't do for a normal Sunday roast.

I love cooking, so Christmas dinner is a chance to pull out the stops. Meanwhile 14 friends tonight for drinks and nibbles. The food’s all ready, beers and white wine in the fridge, red wine opened…. Just waiting for the guests now.

It is a Sunday Roast , but with Bells on.. Biggest difference was more than 2 choice of veg , roast and mash potatoes, pigs in blankets , stuffings etc , selection of sauces , bread and cheese , what made it special was it was all served at the table on Christmas Day , not plated , so you got more of what you liked and you ignored what you didn’t. For me no one could do Christmas dinner like my Mom, though for many years under her supervision I did a good version, till one year she started to “ forget” how to do some of the dishes she previously could do with her eyes shut …
