Has anyone worked out yet, how much the pay per mile will be for each class of car from April, after the March budget?

Very much doubt it will happen in this parliament. So not going to get flustered about it. But if it is ever introduced, I think the civil unrest seen last summer will seem like a bar brawl. However if the infrastructure is in place and we are all living in 15 minutes towns , then who knows. Human existence eventually will be the same as a battery chickens, as we attempt to save our species.

How can you work that out, no one knows yet what system will be used or costs, so it's a pointless post

Can you tell me how much tax we pay on, say a litre of petrol, as many on here will have no idea?

Or maybe someone can say how much the tax is pee litre of petrol?

Been talked about for years but everyone is frightened of the down draft of popularity of such a scheme. Don't think we will see it any time soon.

Labour has ruled out introducing it. The papers state: -

"Pay-per-mile car tax changes have been ruled out by Chancellor Rachel Reeves as drivers face an uncertain future. "

But they have lied and conned us that much, they probably will bring it in

A coffin tax to make some more money from the pensioners who didn't get their WFA, maybe extra tax on mint imperials and Werthers

This is a killer the Gov don't like people knowing about. You road fuel duty and then vat on the duty! You pay tax on tax.

Just had a quick look to refresh my memory.

So fuel cost (variable) + fuel duty (fixed) + VAT on the combined fuel and duty total. Depending on where fuel prices are at the total tax take is between 40-50% of the total price you pay. It's a major source of income to the treasury.

There has been a 5p reduction in the duty in place for a number of years that could be removed at any time.

The government have no problem with people knowing about it. It’s well publicised and easy to find.

Fuel duty is 52.95p, with VAT being charged on the fuel and on the duty.

No one will ever convince me that not using my car will save the world while some countries with enormous populations ignore the, so called , problem.

a tax on online buying would be nice plus a tax on posh food (Caviar/smoked salmon etc)

A tax on online buying would be seen as discrimination to the less able who find visiting shops difficult or even impossible.

We already have a tax on luxury foods it’s called V.A.T. and is already far too high at 20%

It may be only the hard of thinking (and I don't suggest anyone here fits the description) that hasn't paused to consider the infrastructure necessary to be created on every route that would be chargeable.

Yet another daily mail bullshit to herd the gullible. The irony of them is that the typeface used in their cat litter liner of a newspaper is a font called Veritas, which is Latin for truth.

Why on earth would you tax online buying?

Luxury food and goods are already taxed!

I think I read somewhere, that we are the most heavily taxed country in the world, as there are few things that you buy, that don't have tax on them, including biscuits, and some types of crisps, but some types of snack are still tax free.

(don't tell Rachel from accounts).

Not as bad as I remember, at one time we could pay 113% tax, 98% income tax and possibly an investment income surcharge of 15%. I also remember 25% vat rate
