I've had thoughts and desires about being a woman since my teens. In hindsight I probably should have been brave and faced the situation back then, talked to the relevant people etc.

I believe Indonesian traditions recognise five genders.

Several African cultures have some form of trans gender recognition.

We do seem to be rather limited in western culture to a binary selection.
