Greenhouse Darlaston membership

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

I've just been told that anybody now going to the Greenhouse Darlaston will need a membership. You will need to provide either a driving licence or a passport. To provide photo identification. They will keep on record your date of birth and driving licence number or passport number. Please let me know how you feel about this. This identification membership will be needed for both entry and hotel room.

"

For what reason?"

Their website says:

Following a review of our premises license, you will now need ID to attend The Greenhouse Darlaston, whether it’s your first time or you’ve been coming 30 years, we will provide you with a membership card with your membership number on. Your details will NOT be shared with any third parties at any point. This will ensure a safe environment for all.

Doesn't the Basement in Manchester operate a membership scheme? I'm sure Bolts in B'ham used to, no idea if it still does.

It could just be about ensuring all those attending are 18 and over.

Most Saunas operate a Membership Scheme as they operate as Members Clubs - they are just abiding by the Licencing Regs ….which is quite refreshing. where’s the problem ? I don’t see why OP needs to know our views - nosy parker !

I don't need to know your views on anything. Your levels of ignorance are not in doubt. It's nothing to do with licensing regs. The other greenhouse saunas aren't mentioning a membership scheme.

You can understand this. Anonymity is important to many visiting these establishments. Because it's a secret life for them. Many aren't open about their 'hobby' and many are married/straight acting. I bet for Shedazzle on Fridays the number of guys visiting will drop. Especially those who are in relationships. Less fun less numbers attending, surely.

Maybe there was an incident at the sauna forcing this...

Let's say you have two saunas/clubs like Darlaston Greenhouse within walking distance of each other. Close proximity. One operates a membership policy where you have to give private personal details via photo ID. The other establishment is totally anonymous. Guess which one will undoubtedly be the busier?

The irony is that teenagers are the ones most able to access fake-ids… just look in the clubs!

Def puts me off, for reasons others have stated.

Or i need to take a leaf out of the teenage handbook, and get a fake-id

Licensing is operated by the local authority so one might apply the legislation more vigorously than the other.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a safeguarding issue.

If it's been introduced by the local licensing authority both businesses would be subject to the same criteria.

No point speculating on why. If the choice was membership or cancelled licence it's good that they're staying open.

But they won't stay in business without customers!

Users need assurance about data security and confidentiality, but if it's just a DoB and licence number, only someone hacking into gov.uk/ DVLA is is gonna ID you so low- risk surely?

Or just buy a good fake ID and sod it. But don't stop patronising or it'll go bust.

Interesting how casually some regard their future identity safety. So you have to give this place a photo of yourself and personal details. How strong will their data protection systems be that this data doesn't get out by accident or design?. So then you have your face linked unequivocally to a sexual entertainment venue. For some that isn't a problem but for some, probably the majority, that is not a risk worth taking. I wonder if this is a council or police initiative? And if so why? Well as the Dragons say "ahm oot!"

Try and think about all the trans girls who value their identity. They wish to be regarded as female. This is now a no go area for many girls. Why aren't you trying to support other girls?

I think it's been done in a rather selfish way. They could've started telling people a month ago. To at least give reassurance to nervous customers. As I'm someone who is only allowed in on a Friday. I could've turned up next Friday without my passport or driving licence. After driving up from Bath. I'm not very keen on going there, and staying overnight,in one of the hotel rooms. Just to spend my time there trading insults with gay men. Which is what happened last week. I advise you to give it a month or so. To see if things change in your favour. Then either take the plunge there, or go to Northwich. Where no membership or personal details are required.

Just to spend my time there trading insults with gay men. Which is what happened last week. I advise you to give it a month or so. To see if things change in your favour. Then either take the plunge there, or go to Northwich. Where no membership or personal details are required. "

"Interesting how casually some regard their future identity safety.

This is the type of place were security isn't going to be top notch and info could easily be leaked. If you were a 'straight' married business owner for example would you put yourself at risk? Of course it doesnt matter if you are out and you have nothing to lose. "

IT DOES NOT SAY YOU HAVE TO PROVIDE A FACE PIC. IT SAYS: will now need to present ID. We’ll provide you with a membership card featuring your unique membership number. If you do not wish to carry a membership card, just present your ID each time and we will find your unique membership number on our system.

Given that for years they've had a camera on the door, and if a crime had occurred the footage would be scanned , why are men panicking?

What would be leaked? A six figure date of birth and a sixteen digit driving licence number?

And then what? Soneone hacks into DVLA and makes a huge guess that you're a closet poof?

Daft.

Your digital footprint elsewhere is probably a big giveaway. It's just that you don't consider it.

Age verification is coming for websites with sexual content. The most convenient and reliable way of verifying age is by driving licence or passport.

I assume that there will be a mass exodus from this site when verification becomes a legal requirement.

It would be good if the owners could come on here and explain exactly how data will be kept safe and precisely which regulation they are complying with. I stupidly gave my id to get in, as I wasn't thinking straight if you know what I mean.

I saw them write my licence number down. Not sure what else.

Anyway I don't plan to go back. The place has been going downhill for years and is pretty grotty.

By leaving your details with the management to keep on their files to keep. who knows who they will employ in the future having access to these files No matter what the managment tell you it will always be private. you maybe leaving yourselves wide open to who knows what ? Certain venues in different licensing areas have different conditions attached to it's licence by the local authorities. If they deem it a memebers only club then membership is required and a full list of members is to be kept. Most authorities will never ask for the full list but do a random spot check on person's in the venue at the time of their inspection. Data should and must be stored securely and access limited only to those who are deemed responsible to to view it. Ideally all data should be encrypted using a secure data storage facility and varying levels of access to the data. The management should be clearly stating the use and storage of your data.

Sorry just to say one more thing. Your sexuality is a protected character and companies should understand any mis-use of that data would result in a fine if upto £1 million for a company of its size. The regulations on this matter are very stringent.

I want to thank smallstafordcock for bringing some common sense to this post, I personally don't have a problem with identifying myself at a venue like this but I know many people want to keep their sex life private for various reasons.

The world we live in at the moment is constantly monitoring everything we do, those off us with store cards, clubcard, nectar etc. willingly give these companies a lot of personal information which they use and share. I trust Greenhouse to keep my data safe more than the likes of Mr Tesco or YouTube.

Guys don't cut your nose off to spite your face, these places are far safer and more comfortable than cruising a cold wet layby.

Just downloaded the GDPR privacy policy, that was requested from the Greenhouse Darlaston. It's quite comprehensive and clear, concerning the safety of data. If you are doubtful about the safety of your personal data. I would advise you to request a copy of the privacy policy. I'm happy that any doubts I may have had, are now resolved.

Thank you Greenhouse Darlaston x

What safety are you referring to? "

Safe place to play, they have the right to eject trouble makers and can operate without fear of police raids unless there are reports of things that breach the licence conditions. Worth the membership.

I understand its very relaxing and can be less busy than a Saturday. However you will not be allowed in dressed. Tgirl day is on a Friday. It was quite good last Friday. Tgirls, Trans, CDs, aren't allowed in on other days, as we tend to frighten the gay and bi men.
