I used to ask myself that but now I just embrace it and enjoy the single life. It’s so fulfilling being single and content. Couples look happy and amazing, but we never know what’s really going on behind closed doors. Also we are very good story tellers, especially on social media.

It depends what you mean by 'special'. If you are looking for a meaningful long term relationship they can be hard to find but only become impossible if you give up.

I lost a dear friend last year, she was 87. She was married 3 times, divorced once and widowed by cancer twice. At 61 she had a conversation with a guy at a book festival and spent the last 26 years of her life with him. By far the longest relationship she ever had.

I've had some long term 'friends with benefits' scenarios. They were never exclusive, one guy even got married to another guy during our connection. However, the they were special to me and I never doubted I was special to them.
