Zalensky is about to sell the rights of Ukraine mineral wealth to Trump in a $500m deal, this will mean continued military support from the US, there were also threats to cut off the use of the Elon musk starlink satellites by Ukraine...

I misread the title. Thought it said Zelensky gives it to Trump. That's a porn film I don't want to watch.

Starlink? You mean that Musk bloke whos had about 20 BILLION dollars of government funds since 2008?

Surely that must make him the biggest of all welfare queens as the republicans like to call people who hold their hand out for help.

Is Tesla subsidized by the US government?

Currently, Tesla sells their cars at a lower price than it costs to manufacture them. The company then recoups these costs through a wide array of government subsidies and tax credits, both to the company and its final product.

Hmmm talk about gaming the system eh?

Starliink is not the only satellite communication system. The UK is developing its own series of satellites to improve communications in rural areas. It could be developed to supply Ukraine too.

Do you mean the thing that Boris Johnson was talking about a few years ago?

Does Zalensky have the authority to sell those rights. I thought his authority had ended legally.

The minerals in question are rare earth elements, essential in modern communication equipment. The suspicion is that is what Putin is really after in the invasion of the Ukraine.

And, in his maneuvering, the devious Trump was after the same thing.

Wondering if we could fight off a Russian invasion without Nato it might be time for us in Europe to tell the United States to go to hell and exit Nato we can't carry on allowing Trump to push us around.

Britain in isolation, not a chance. Europe as a whole, probably as long as Nato/America still provided a real deterrent to Putin using nuclear weapons

Offshore now, ignore pistcode

The last audit of the minerals was undertaken in Soviet times where they were encouraged to lie and exaggerate.

I’ve done business with Ukrainian businessmen in their country. If Trump thinks he can outsmart them, good luck. They love money more than Trump and know how to extract it.

Trump may have won a battle but not the war - typical Americans

The UK is relatively safe as the Russian logistics and supply lines would be extremely difficult to maintain. If they were really pissed off at us and we had given cause then they might slam a few Oreshnik missiles into us....

The Russians could take all of the Baltics in a morning and I'd wager that NATO would not do a damn thing about it... Again logistics against NATO but not Russia.... Plus would any Western Politician risk a Nuclear Holocaust for those Chihuahuas?

There is no chance that Russia will try to take over Europe, for a slew of reasons...

1. Soldiers, they simply do not have enough people to do it. Remember in the beginning of the Ukraine war there were 40,000 Russian Troops surrounding Kiev and speculation was that they would take Kiev? Impossible, no way 40,000 troops could take and hold a city of 3,000,000 people.

2. Money, Russia simply does not have enough Assets and Reserves to be able to take Europe.

3. Desire, what would Russia gain from taking Europe? Europe has few resources but it does have 450,000,000 surly people that can't even get along with each other, no way could Russia control that, and they KNOW it.....
