A place for anything motorcycle related

I’ve got an idea for a road trip this summer.

Bristol to Cork via the Pembroke ferry (to Rosslare, I think) to see Cork City play Celtic at the GAA stadium (8 or 9 July, tickets on sale tomorrow).

No panniers and no feminine fripperies - stripped down to the naked male in a set of leathers, little back-pack and security chain round my waist.

A new part of the world for me to see.

Are you planning any trips?

It's turned into quite a road trip now. All booked.

Bristol - Wexford - Cork - Belfast - Glasgow - Inverness - Fife - Bristol

7 or 8 nights on the road

Nothing better than a solo motorcycle trip with freedom of the road following the weather and good roads ,enjoying a free spirit and to visit lovely new or old friends…many pre planned thru Fab or TX Chix….

Lucky to be able to fulfill twice a year late spring and early Autumn….

My absolute favourite activity…makes me so happy!

Sara, I last visited Ireland about 10 years ago on a W650 Kawasaki, stunning roads in spite of sometimes atrocious weather. I don't know if your itinerary stretches that far, but if you can take in the south west peninsulas or swing through Killarney National Park you won't regret it. Biking heaven.

That's a spin and a half.

The best roads are all Cork to Belfast via the south West like the previous poster says.

The wild Atlantic way.

Some great roads off it.

Sounds like heaven what ever way you ride it.

Enjoy

I've been threatening to ride the ACT in Portugal and Spain for the last few years.

Maybe this year.

I'm doing Rosslare to Cork via an overnight in Wexford, an overnight in Cork on the night of the football match, then Cork-Belfast for an overnight to catch the early ferry to Scotland.

Fair play to you, that’s quite a trip. I’m quite jealous of your trips, I definitely need to get out more.

Not quite as punishing as Bristol to Munich and Cologne - shorter legs, except the final day from Fife to Bristol (410 miles)

Ah your selling yourself short and missing the best bits.

Like as said. Parts of Cork, Kerry up along the west coast Galway to Donegal and the noth Antrim coast are stunning.

Honestly unless you like motorways your missing the very best of the place.

I spent 3 days just riding around Clifden Westport and Galway and it looks tiny on the map but it's nearly all single lane stuff with great scenery and fun to ride roads. I'm no pilot though so each their own.

It's like anywhere I suppose. Its the little out of the way places you'll find the charm.

Perhaps both are indicators of a tendency to individuality and self expression.

This sounds amazing, it's on my bucket list to do a solo bike tour. But this year I'm just doing Scotland with a group.

I ride old British bikes and have decided to re-enact a trip I did several decades ago which involved going to the Eastern, Northern, Western and Southern most points of England, about 1600 miles last time.

Also I want to do the only bits of the coast of the UK I haven't ridden, basically Edinburgh to Skye.

I hope the weather will be tolerable!

Nice. I did John O'Groats to Land's End last year on an 80 year old bike.

I think the record for Land's End to John O'Groats is about 55 minutes.

Set by an RAF Tornado lol

I did a solo ride a couple of years ago. Rode from kent to john O'Groats, then (with no motorways) stopped at 26 locations, all in alphabetical order, (nowhere beginning with X, so I used poetic license and went to exmouth) before finally reaching lands end. Took 5 days and loved everything about it. This year, Germany this summer

Please don’t have a thick chain around your waist. We can all fall off at some point in our riding. The chain will cause lots of damage xxx

I don't understand.

I carry a security chain around my waist when on a road trip.

(If I hook it through the back-pack, it increases the weight and strain on my back)
